It isn’t completely intuitive, but what helped me was to divide the modes into two groups. The “performance” modes (tow, eco, sport) are all to the left (counter-clockwise); the “environment” modes (slippery, snow, sand/mud, rock) are all to the right (clockwise). It isn’t perfect, but I found it a lot easier to shift blindly on the fly once I started in the correct direction.I’m really enjoying my new truck. Does anyone else find the drive mode selector not to be intuitive? I keep trying for Eco or Sport modes on the fly and end up in Mud mode with the differential locking! ???

Eh, it also changes the transmission's parameters; most notability how long to hold gearsI think that the biggest difference in Eco is that the throttle response curve is changed. Sport is the reverse, with the throttle being more sensitive. It's a lazy way of making people think that they have more HP.
And of course the 4 wheel drive pairing (4A for sport and slippery or 4H for snow, etc.) doesn't default to Normal 2H after an ignition cycle. That would make even more sense. Ford must be outsourcing their transmission and drive programming to former Yugo engineers.Everyone has been asking since day one to have a menu option to 'Remember last drive mode with out prompt'. Imagine if you cuold just go into the menu and select that. Boom, 80% of people stay in ECO mode for the majority of their driving.
If I remote start, do something else before getting in, I miss the prompt and for 10 minutes I dont notice then have to use the knob to select while driving or what-not.
Sometimes I dont even switch out of spite. Like Seinfeld.
Too real, lol.Random like which menu shows up on your gauge cluster upon startup?? Random like when your radio is turned off when it was on when you last got out? Random like transmission shifiting smoothness? Random like the tones of the beeps when entering and exiting your truck??![]()
Almost no difference from the 'Normal' mode, it desensitizes the accelerator a bit, and the shift pattern won't rev as high. Funny they put it right next to Sport mode, definitely goes from one extreme to another.New guy here with 3.5. WTF is Eco. And why?![]()
Right? It's not rocket surgery. One click brings up the list of options, subsequent ones will change the drive mode. Counter-clockwise goes towards the left, clockwise goes towards the right.
No… This is for people who don’t know how to drive. Like those who say they get the same MPGs in eco and sport mode. The throttle response is way less in eco mode. Another big difference is in the v8, cylinder deactivation is used in eco mode… which is not used in sport, makes a big difference in MPGs. If I drive in eco I get right at 21 mpg. Normal mode just under 20. Sport mode… 17-18 if I’m lucky.I think that the biggest difference in Eco is that the throttle response curve is changed. Sport is the reverse, with the throttle being more sensitive. It's a lazy way of making people think that they have more HP.
I'm pleased to hear that this truck has "DAD MODE" available in the drive modes! Nice work.Just used Sand Mud to pull daughters Escape front wheel drive out of powdered beach sand uphill.
