How does it work with reselling your truck after adding upgrades/mods? I have been slowly adding things ever since I bought it such as rain sensing wipers and SiriusXM. I am also planning on adding the heated steering wheel and adaptive cruise control. All of this obviously did not come with the truck so if I went to a dealer to trade in, how would that work? Would it add any value or would the dealer not really care?

I would imagine it would depend on mods.

You haven't listed anything extreme or ultra personal that would effect the value either way. I doubt the dealer would discount it or add value to it based on those mods. Now, if you were to heavily alter the suspension, or engine, or interior or paint or body, that would have a major effect one way or the other depending on how extreme or personal the mods were.

I strongly suspect that DIY mods won't increase trade value.

Dealers, lenders, and insurers set their valuations using VIN-based industry standard tools (databases) which don't 'account' for mods.

IMO in the vast majority of cases dealers aren't going to highlight mods as a way to try to increase resale price, mainly because of the risk that many buyers will be leery of buying a vehicle that's been 'DIY tinkered with' by a previous owner.

Might be different with a high-effort individual sale rather than trade at a dealer.

You do mods for the enjoyment you get from using them, not in anticipation of increased resale value. IMO from a financial standpoint, expensive mods are a losing proposition unless you keep the vehicle long enough to get payback from your own use / enjoyment.

Just one opinion.

All good points. I’m doing everything simply for my enjoyment in the vehicle. I was just more curious on what it would look like down the road when I am back at a dealer and they run the VIN and see that it has a bunch of things not originally factory installed. Thanks everyone!

Superchargers (Whipple) are the only mod I have seen that adds desire and value if properly documented and warranted. Lifts, tires, bigger turbos, lights, paint schemes are all nonsense as far as resale goes.

I would not expect to get near what you paid for the supercharger install either, but you may fetch an extra 3-4K over a stock truck. Not many other mods will you get people to pay extra for.

You may get a few pennies on the dollar for a bed cover, but mods typically decrease resale value. You're better off removing the mods and selling separately. Most people don't want a vehicle that's been modified, however tasteful the mods may be.

No added value and from what I have been reading, the heated steering wheel is challenging at best!

Short answer, trade in- No.
Unless it's Ford 'accessories' installed by that ford dealer. You will not increase and potentially deduct from the trucks value for anything you've installed.
Private party - yes, but.
Depends what it is, depends on who wants your truck.
You can't add any value to a vehicle unless it was expensive, desirable and you have receipts that it was professionally installed.

Classic cars are a bit different, but the owner of a large local shop and sales operation will tell you up front not to waste money restoring it yourself; just buy one that's been done that you like, as "People are dying all the time."

:teehee:

Even if it's a mod that someone would pay extra for, they won't pay close to what it cost.

Having sold a dozen or so autos that were modified by dealers or DIY has taught me one thing, It may sell faster against similar models if done correctly, but doesn't normally add value.
