Doer of stuff and things.
Good lists thus far. Consider adding bolt cutters.

I keep a pelican 1450 under the rear seat of my truck for my toolbox. This size fits perfectly allowing the rear seat lower all the way and doesn't stick out past the edge of the front lip. It also sits next to my orange Apache 3800 case (they both fit nicely under the larger section of the bench) that is home to my first aid kit.

In my toolbox I keep the following:
  • 3/8 Inch Drive 6-Point Socket Set with Rail, 19-Piece (6-24 mm)
    • No skips in sizes
  • 3/8 Inch Drive 6-Point Socket Set with Rail, 15-Piece (1/4-1 in.)
    • No skips in sizes
  • 3/8 Inch Drive x 8 Inch Ratchet
  • Masterforce 3/8" Drive Socket Extension Set -3 Piece
    • 3", 6", 10" Extensions
  • 8" Adjustable Wrench
  • 10" Adjustable Wrench
  • Adjustable Pliers
  • Needle Nose Pliers
    • With built in Wire Cutter
  • Zip Ties
    • Multiple sizes
  • Claw Hammer
  • Work Gloves
  • Masterforce Impact Drive Bit Set - 21 Piece
    • Torx, Philips, Square, and Flathead
  • Knipex 3 1/2" TwinKey Universal Control Cabinet Key
    • Doubles as driver handle for the Masterforce bits
  • Eklind Hex Wrench Set Metric
    • (I should probably replace the 7 piece set I have with a more comprehensive set)
  • Eklind Hex Wrench Set Standard
    • (I should probably replace the 7 piece set I have with a more comprehensive set)
  • 4-way Valve Stem Core Tool
  • Pro-Series Ultimate Tire Plug Kit
  • Colby Emergency Valve Stem Replacement Kit (2 vavle stems)
  • Tire Pressure Gauge
  • Mini Pick and Hook Set
  • 12" Carpenter Square
  • 40 Gram Rechargeable Silica Gel Canister
    • Keeps everything from rusting
Other Random Tools usually in my truck:
  • Pocket Knife
  • Multi Tool
  • Flashlight
  • Solid Chemical Fire Extingusher
  • 30-minute Road Flares
  • Hearing Protection
  • Ratchet Straps
  • Bungie Coords
  • 50' Para Cord
  • Extension Cords
  • 3-way Splitter (for Extension Cords)
Probably missing something like a CO2 tire inflator...

I picked up this Die Hard tool roll from Advanced Auto the other day. For $50 I thought is was a very nice kit for EMERGENCY use. It is small and compact and I hope to never need it. I will add some gloves and shop towels to it.

Probably pick up another one for my VW bug.

At the end of the day, I have a cell phone, credit card, Auto Club membership and usually a few bucks on me so I can probably overcome any on-road break down. Off road, I would want and carry more stuff.
this is exactly what i have. only thing i added was a set of screwdriver bits that had a bunch more options than what came with it

Thats a good idea. The only thing I added (after reading this thread) are some rubber gloves and shop tags.

I have one in both my truck and my wife’s suv. Had to use it on my wife’s suv once but not on the truck yet thankfully
I keep one of these with me too. GBX75. Overkill for this truck but wanted to get something that would jump my son’s Sierra 3500 in a pinch. Also like the USB battery pack feature.

There is a lot of great info in this thread! I think I’m going to pick up that Diehard toolkit to stash in my truck along with my tire inflator, gloves, Lysol wipes, first aid kit, a folding snow shovel, and Tabasco sauce. I’m planning to drive from Illinois to Arizona for Christmas and want to be prepared. As a female traveler, I’ll have freedom seeds with me too, but I hope I only encounter good folks and no creepos.

A giant zip tie (like HVAC, comically oversized) got me out of a bind once when my roof rack screws came undone on one side. The whole rack could pivot up and down, hinged only by the two passenger side mount points. That fat zip tie got me home safe (paracord/rope/network cable would have worked fine too)

$25 Hazard Fraught fire extinguisher has lived here for a couple years now. I put the dent there with a hammer so it won't scuff the door.

+1 on the Dude wipes, extra gas, drinking water on long trips. +1 on most of the suggestions in this great thread.
Oh - something I haven't done yet but learned somewhere on this forum was to get a coil pack. They're pretty cheap I think, and having one out in the middle of nowhere if one dies could get me back in business again, assuming I could figure out which one it is. I have no idea how often they fail, but I just hit 75K and I know things will start breaking... My block heater died - got that replaced.
