Next-Gen Ford F-150 Reportedly Delayed Until 2028
  • Ford has reportedly delayed the launch of the next-generation F-150.
  • The model was expected in 2027, but may not arrive until mid-2028.
Citing executives from three suppliers, Crain’s Detroit Business is reporting the redesigned truck has been delayed by at least one year.

The model, which is reportedly codenamed P736, was slated to be launched in 2027. However, it has now been pushed back to at least mid-2028. Given the delay, it’s not surprising that suppliers were also told Ford is extending production of the current F-150 by another year.

The reason for the delay remains unclear and Ford wouldn’t confirm or deny timing when asked by the publication.

Maybe now we'll see some more aftermarket development for our trucks since many parts should fit 2021-2028 models.

I hope they're slowing their roll and actually building them right.

No complaint from me, the longer GEN 14 is produced, the longer my much-loved long-term-keeper 2022 remains 'current'.

The last few generations have been pretty evolutionary with no big changes other than the alloy bodies and the hybrid. Was there any talk from Ford about how much the next gen. would change?

Judging by how the new Toyota trucks and SUVs have fallen flat with the Toyota Not Giving A-Fuck platform and how much the political landscape of possibly the next decade will change and rolling back or freezing mandates that have been castrating the light truck market the crazy and unrealistic MPG requirements are a thing of the past and maybe, just maybe a little hope for affordability and reliability can make a return.

I seriously doubt that they’ll use the extra time for working out bugs. They will focus 100% on manufacturing costs and marketability! Though, hopefully they can at least expand the Powerboost powertrain to other engines and configurations because that seems to be the sweet spot between the full EV folly and conventional ICE powertrains.

Having said that, IF they were to offer a Lariat SuperCab PB equivalent in Gen 15, that might get my attention.

Methinks the chances of that are less than zero and I'll be more than happy hanging-on to my unicorn Gen 14 Lariat SuperCab EB. (y) :D

I think the real reason is probably related to a complete change in the EV push due to the new administration. I suspect Ford is reevaluating all of their future models at this point. Dodge is in a world of hurt right now after going all in on the EV Charger/Challenger replacement and cancelling the Hemi engines. The turbo I6 is a good engine, but there is still a demographic that wants a V8 in their performance car or truck and few people are willing to buy an EV at a 10k+ premium with the charging network still in its infancy.

Yeah, dodge's engine harnesses on the i6 are complete trash. If the harness is made anything like that platinum door harness, it'd explain it. The stellantis CEO had something like a 25mil euro bonus if he got some many of the electrified vehicles out the door by a certain time. Needless to say 'he gone'. They're going to be bringing the hemi back real soon. Their sales have tanked and that 6klb EV charger is :poop::poop::poop:

Charging right now for anyone who has access to the tesla network is a-okay for traveling. Charge time is based on the vehicle's batt and everyone but china's EVs are pretty bad (40 minutes). The EGMP platform is pretty good (hyundai/kia). Greater than 90% of charging occurs at home. Current US EVs aren't road trippers unless you like spending 40 minutes or so at a charger every 3 hours. Personally I prefer the 6+hrs for every 10 minutes at the pump the PB provides.

I would believe that when I heard them relaxing Cafe standards a natural response would be to pump the brakes on newer models across the board. No need to hurry onto the next thing if you don't have to push technology so hard. Hopefully they get to take a breath and get the next gen in a good spot by 2028

We don't have a technology issue per se, the tech exists, it's just in china and US legacy auto taking 2-3 years to finalize a platform makes whatever they settled on back then, obsolete today. It's not for lack of tech, it's a lack of using the latest tech available.

That's like settling on today's iPad for deployment 4 years from now. You just can't adapt tech like that, let alone take 3-4 years to develop it and then sell it for another 3+ years. You're 6-7 years behind before starting again.

They back-pedaled all ready now that sales have dried up…they also have suspended the end of Hellcat production meaning the Hellcat engine is here to stay. I still think they should invest in new architecture like Ford and GM, they are way behind. Low compression, PI, iron blocks….the Hemi is too much of a boat anchor for modern cars. They need to Coyote-ize if they plan to compete in the modern V8 space. We all ready see what GM is doing with the Gemini V8 in the vette.
