I think the last time I consulted consumer reports was around 1986. I decided to make my own decisions, do my own research, and choose what was best for me. I picked a truck brand everyone loves to hate and for 35 years I owned 5 of them which required 2 of them to go to the dealership for a 1 ea warranty fix. All had 100k plus with trouble free driving and none of that was on a forum/social media for anyone to review.

I didn't research CR or social media on my F150 purchase. I looked at all of the brands and made a decision. Only time will tell as anything can be a lemon.

Forums/social media can be a source of information if it is dedicated to the subject at hand, F-150 Gen 14. But social media, like anything else, has drawbacks you must consider. Such as, a social media site represents most likely less than 1% of actual owners so you have a very small sampling of good /bad reports and opinions are very biased.

I've learned quite a bit out of searching the site as a whole about this here Ford of mine. So when I ask a question it's because I don't really know squat about these new Fords.

1984 Mustang GT, yes I know that one quite well...

I will never underestimate the value of an active and dedicated internet forum when trying to get the lay of the land on a consumer products.

I'm old and remember very much what it was like before the digital community existed. Back then all you had were things like Car&Driver and Consumer Reports. But neither even come close to being able to compete with a good forum.

Forums are so effective today that the consumer can have a better finger on the pulse than the factory reps do.

I think you're close to the mark. But then, these trucks are talking to Ford all the time... Aren't they collecting alot of performance data that way? Or is the sheer volume of data so massive that Ford can't wade thru it all and make sense of it?

Oh I have no doubt that Ford would have enormous amounts of field data from these vehicles. I'm just not convinced that they are efficiently sophisticated in using that data to accomplish quick solutions.

For 3 years they had vehicles reporting suspect low voltage SOC, before they did anything to address it. 3 years!
They absolutely did the right thing. But all that sophisticated telemetry sure as heck didn't lend itself to a quick response.

Since when has anyone *actually* used CR to make a purchase decision? Are they even relevant anymore?

I don't reference these type publications ever. They generally have no idea what I'm going to use the truck for, or how. They're aimed at an entirely different segment of people than me. If Subaru made a truck, it would have their highest ratings ever.

I based my decisions on 26 years of F150 ownership with only 2 repair shop level issues. That and my dad already owning a 5.0 F150 for 5 years with absolutely no issues.

All i can say i had a 2023 powerboost was nothing but trouble. Three time's it would not start. All I got from the dealer was we have not been able to duplicate the problem & send me home with the truck after they had it for three weeks.
so one thing that needs to be brought up and needs to be realized this. Often times it’s not the vehicle itself. That’s the major problem. It is quite often the dealership. Keep in mind the dealership is not forward. They are a franchise business completely separate from Ford.

Many problems, I see voiced here our dealership related incompetence and negligence. It is understandable for the consumer to be irritated, disappointed, and generally confused. Not all dealerships are incompetent.

So far, 20k in, my 23 PowerBoost has been good. Two software things - one was a B&O bug where certain speakers didn't work on startup sometimes. Dealer flashed the DSP with newer software and that fixed it. Second is the PowerBoost specific emissions software recall that just came out - it goes in for hopefully just a PCM update next week.

It has some rattles and stuff, but none are awful and no worse than my previous two F-150s. I am also more sensitive to those than the average person.

I looked over the list again and noticed there seems to be a price quotient involved. Ford and Toyota should be more reliable considering the price…
Something to that effect.

At 22,800 miles I just had my first non recall check warranty repair. Passenger side mirror camera and cable replacement following hurricane Milton.

Another thing to consider about the validity of this list- supposedly the Honda Ridgeline is the best midsized truck...

Check the price
The Ridgeline was loved by the car mags too when introduced in the same way they love the Ram. Car like feel because they aren't real trucks.

;) Ram lol
