It's been a great 2 weeks enjoying my '24 F150. I love the way it looks, rides, and the thumbs up I get while driving.

Last night on my way home from a day trip to San Diego a local Pirate decided to "investigate" me.

As I was approaching an intersection at about 9pm, I spotted a vehicle doing an illegal u-turn cutting me off. I immediately flashed my high beams and laid on the honk to let them know of their stupid driving decision. As soon as I got next to the vehicle, I noticed it was a law enforcement SUV. At that very moment, I knew this officer was going to bullshit me as much as he did.

I got to the intersection, flashed my turn signal and made my right turn. SUV proceeded to follow me for about 1 mile until he activated his lights. This particular road doesn't have a shoulder and only a bike lane, therefore I continue to drive with my turn signal to pull over onto the very next side street where it was safe to pull over.

Immediately he confronts me with the "Why didn't you pull over!?" I stated it was not safe to do so and informed him that I was not going to risk my passenger and my life getting rear ended by someone doing 50+. He responded with an attitude he decides if it's safe or not, then proceeded to accuse me of having his car in traffic and how much of a safety hazard it was for him.

I immediately got the feeling this guy thinks he's above the law and knows he will lie to get his way. He then asked why I haven't replaced the temporary tags with the new permanent tags. I politely responded, they have not arrived, the truck was purchased July 29th. Besides, my temp tags are good for 90 days, so why does it matter? I also showed him on my phone the CA Temp Plate Law to prove my point. Not sure how that response was triggering, but this officer did not like it.

I provided proof of insurance, license and temp registration card and he went back to his car. After 10 minutes of waiting, he comes back to my window, hands me all my documents and proceeds to do a walk around of my truck, and says, "is this a show truck? You will be getting a ticket for illegal tint only. Make sure you install the plates when they arrive."

Really? WTF! My truck has the stock rear privacy window! Both front windows were rolled down the whole time. Not once did he see or prove my front windows are tinted. Not saying they are, however, they are the lightest you can go.

Honestly, I feel I was purposely pulled over and fucked with just because I called him out on an illegal U-turn. I will go to court and fight him there for an unlawful stop without evidence of a crime.

Hire a lawyer, record stop on your phone and live stream it to your cloud
Get a dash cam
If you receive a ticket and your right...go to court with a lawyer.
Never ever argue with a police man on side of road, odds are not in your favor, but also don't roll over, be firm. But polite
Never give up your rights, refuse search
Force a supervisor to arrive, you will still be searched, but the record of it will be in 3 places at least
There are great police and there are terrible police..
Everywhere, some have bad days
And ca ones probably have many bad days in last few years.
We have a few Rambo wanna bees over in next county..
Sugar works better than salt
Flashing and honking at cop doing an u turn in a dangerous manner with no lights??
If so ..he is wrong

Exactly! I knew trying to prove my point was not going to work there. I signed on the dotted line and will be fighting in court. When I showed him my proof of insurance on my phone, he tried to take my phone. I pulled it away and told him he can look only. Moving forward, my next mod on my truck will be a dash cam. If anyone has any they recommend, please let me know. I'm sure he has evidence from the illegal turn from his patrol unit, which I will request to be brought in as evidence, as well as his personal camera during the questioning.

This is exactly why I decided to sell my 2015 Mustang GTPP. I saw how the police were coming after the car community. I knew it was only a matter of time before I would be stopped in my mustang, and that was something I wanted to avoid. I am a responsible adult that loves a nice clean vehicle like many of us on here.

"I immediately got the feeling this guy thinks he's above the law"

You're right, audio/cam footage of the incident would be helpful to see how the conversation and entire event actually went. That "immediate feeling" thing can easily be transmitted either way.

I'll be stopping by the local police station today and make a request of the video for my court date In Oct. Hopefully they cooperate with the information and not try to silence me. Been doing a little reading on this matter and looks like I have grounds for a case based on an unlawful stop and search. If I didn't break any laws, and I didn't act in any suspicious way to warrant a crime, why did I get stopped and searched?

Do you know what's better than cop's word against yours? Yours and your passenger's against his. I'd file a complaint against him immediately at his department. There's a good possibility his illegal U turn is recorded on his dash cam. A large number of departments have moved to a system where the cop can no longer edit the footage, basically if the vehicle or body cam captured it, he can't change that. Might consider contacting a criminal/civil rights attorney under the guise of suing the department due to retaliatory / civil rights violation for a groundless traffic stop after he endangered you and your occupant.

That is assuming the story transpired as you said it did.

Thank you for the advice! I will be filing a report with the department due to his unlawful stop. I will be the first to admit when I have made a mistake, and this was not it. Neither did I give him an attitude when responding to the false claims. I knew it would end worse if I argued with him then and there. I was going to record, but I knew I would need to open an app to show my insurance. If I had a paper copy, then I would have recorded my POV.

It puts them in a bind when it comes to the footage as you and your passenger's word trumps his so they have to produce the footage or argue 2 on 1.

Be prepared for multiple court dates or it may be thrown out on the first one due to insufficient evidence. As the saying goes, the process is the punishment. Clearly he wasn't responding to a call (as evidenced by wasting time stopping you for contempt of cop) so his illegal traffic activity needs to be ticketed appropriately.

When you file for dash cam footage, request his body cam
Again if all is as described
I bet he saw temp tags and decided an easy cash for city
Sadly there are many like that
But good news there are many that do an excellent job at thier very difficult job

Good luck

The thing that would piss me off the most would be the tint. If it's factory tint I almost would have lost my s***.

You should see how they treat you on a motorcycle in cali. It’s as if you just robbed a bank. Really happy to see more and more folks not trust them. Certainly not what they used to be…..

Call his department and inquire who you can make an official misconduct report to. Call that person and make a report. Some department require it be made in writing, allow you to pick up the form, complete it and mail it back to them That is the only way undesirables are removed from their departments. They won't tell you, but I'll bet there have already been complaints filed against him.
