Carfax discrepancy...

Anyone use the carfax car care app? I thought I would try this out as a way to remove another "sticker" from my windshield. I download my app, plug in the VIN and the app comes back and thinks I have a 2.7 instead of the 3.5, and over 5000 miles on it, instead of the correct mileage which is like 4300. Now I have heard of clerical errors at the dealership level, but I have yet to get my first oil change, so I can't imagine anything other than original mileage entered. So I removed this truck my "garage" on the app, but I found it quite odd. I know its not a 2.7l (I mean I have the window sticker lol). I didn't "edit" the mileage in the app for fear of the dreaded "mileage inconsistency". Kind of at a loss of what to do about it at this point.

They are reporting 5196 miles, and I have 4363. As best I can figure out, I took delivery of it with 869 miles on it (was a demo vehicle) but if you add those miles to the actual mileage its 5232. So that doesn't even make sense. And the engine type of course. Weird.

The mileage is estimated, It will adjust when you enter maintenance actions. Also, it will update when your vehicle is serviced at a dealer. Carfax does not track your car's mileage like the Ford pass app does.

Ok so maybe once I get the first service done, the records will be updated to reflect the correct mileage and engine type? I looked at autocheck and fords website, and they report 3.5, just threw me for a loop that the carfax one would be different.

Yes, once your truck is serviced at the dealer your Carfax account will also be updated. You can also go in and update your service records anytime you perform maintenance.

Carfax basically estimates your mileage off age of the vehicle or last service records that were inputted.

Carfax listed my GT 350 as having had an accident when I wanted to buy my new RCSB. I provided every bit of info they wanted and they never corrected the error. $$$ lost!

I buddy f mine bought a used 2022 Lariat with a clean Carfax. About two months later his front sensors started acting up. Turns out the previous owner has run it into a tall curb or something. Luckily the truck was Blue Certified and he went after the dealership and they fixed everything. The moral of the story is not all crashes get reported.

I had a taco once that was rear ended by a camry. He slid underneath it and the hitch tore apart the top of his motor. There was 2 baby scuffs on the bumper from it that weren't even noticeable so I left it as is. Carfax reported "moderate damage" despite not even having a repair. The buyer tried to use it to lowball, I took a pic of the lack of damage and he was just like 'oh, nevermind'. Bought it for asking.

Thanks all. I am not too concerned about it right now, we will see what gets corrected if anything after the first oil change. My dealer is a friend of mine (yes literally lol) so I know there wasn't any unreported damage or engine issues.

I would take carfax reviews at the same level as a used car salesman! I bought my 2018 GMC Denali crew 4x4 duramax new. Waited for the shipping plastic to be removed from the front and dealer prep. When I was considering trading it in on a new truck carfax said it had 1 accident no other info. It only has 30k now. I am the only person to ever drive it! It has never been in an accident. When I bought a SCLB 4x4 XLT 5.0 in 2024 it was a very low mileage lease return 24k the carfax had all the dealer service but neglected to mention that most of the passengers side had been repainted and the trim under the bottom edge of bed and wheel well was missing. The detail shop I took it to “to get a ceramic coating done” they pointed out the tap marks and overspray on the window rubber. You can see the difference in the metallic when you look where the tap line was. My point. Carfax is only as good as the integrity of the reporting party. Many shops will do work and not report anything. If I damage one of my trucks in the future I’ll find a Joe lowball that doesn’t report and have it fixed. Then sell it to a ford dealership. I’m angry and just want to warn everyone do your own research. Especially.If your buying from a ford dealership in Fresno Ca.
