2022 F150 PowerBoost
Hi guys, I received a few service recommendations when I had my oil changed at a Ford dealership. I wonder if these are unnecessary dealer upsells.

My car is a 2022 F150 PowerBoost with 36,000 miles on the clock.

Also, given my mileage, what other future services should I pay attention to besides an oil change?
Thanks!

Throttle Body Service: Throttle body service due to time and mileage
The Throttle Body is a housing that is bolted on to the entrance of the intake manifold and contains the round opening or throttle bore that contains the round metal throttle blade that controls the amount of air that is allowed to enter a gasoline engine.

Ford F-150 Are the following service recommendations valid? 1757189332343-1c

Fuel Induction Service: Fuel Injector Service 3 PART Service due to time and mileage
This service increases fuel economy, reduces emissions, and restores lost power. A specialized tool applies a combination of highly effective cleaners to do a complete and thorough cleaning of deposits from the fuel injectors, fuel lines, and intake valves and ports. Complete removal of combustion chamber deposits corrects the necessary balance of fuel and air needed for optimal performance and improved throttle response.

Brake Fluid Exchange: Replace brake fluid due to time and mileage
During the operation of a vehicle, the brake fluid's boiling point is continually reduced through the absorption of atmospheric moisture. The moisture content can lead to the formation of vapor under hard braking conditions, reducing the system's efficiency. Flushing the old contaminated fluid out of the system and replacing it with new clean fluid.

The PB doesn't have a throttle body... You have fuel injectors, 1 per cylinder and direct injection injectors, again 1 per cylinder.
At 35K miles the fuel injector service is not yet needed. Similarly the brake fluid is completely unnecessary at this mileage.
This guys trying to talk you into make work...

Check your owners manual. Brake fluid may be on a time schedule as well as mileage.

I would only do the induction if the intake valves were bore scoped to prove they were caked with carbon. But on a port and direct injected engine this is greatly reduced.

I took our MDX into the Acura dealer for a leaking power steering line. Since you have to lift the block off the rear mount, the $400 charge seemed Ok. Then I get a text form the service writer, recommending new wiper blades and a blower motor fan cleaning, $50 and $200 respectively. I told them to get the work requested done before asking about that crap.

Reminds me back in 2010 I had a King Ranch F-150 with a 5.4. In those days, I had it in at Metro Ford for some reason, it had about 120,000 on the clock and the coolant looked like curdled 3 week old orange juice. The owners Manuel said the Service interval was 250,000, I'm like wtf that's not right, I'm thinking at that mileage combined with our cold Canadian winters surely that can't be right. For my peace of mind I had the system flushed and new coolant added, you should of seen the old coolant, I still think Ford put that Service interval in there knowing the old coolant would be so acidic and the ph so far off surly other damage would of been done, it's part of their planned obsellessance scheme.

Can you spell RIP-OFF? These recommendations over and above manufacturers recommendations are fabrications of the service industry designed to take your money.

It is so interesting how these "service dealers" work people that don't look at their service manuals to see what should be changed and by when.

I do the brake fluids in my vehicles once every 5 to 6 years. Brake Fluid is a common "service" these dealers try to push on people, since they don't know the intervals.

Also transmission, and differential fluids I would think about doing them at 60K. Especially if you do a lot of towing.

A transmission service is recommended by Ford at 100,000 miles or 10 years. These fluids last a long time. Also a coolant flush is recommended at 100,000 or 10 years whichever comes first.

FXO, my manual does drive train (front and rear on my 4 x 4, plus transmission) @ 150K, then coolant at 200K . No mention of brake fluid anytime. I agree that if someone is doing a lot of towing or 4 wheeling, they may want to increase the frequency of differential/transmission service, but for the ordinary person like me who doesn’t stress the system very often, following the manufacturer’s recommendations just makes sense. As I said elsewhere in this thread, increased frequency of service is a manufactured recommendation by the people who make money from it, and old schoolers clinging to what used to be the norm. I don’t intend to own this truck by the time the coolant needs changing, LOL, and likely not when the drive train needs service. If/ when it starts to squeak/rattle or cause me aggravation with small issues, it’s outta here!

Don't think that service is needed at 36k miles - but I thought a '22 Powerboost does have a throttle body.

Brake fluid is hydroscopic meaning it absorbs water over time so I go by a time interval and not based on mileage or color. It’s way cheaper to do a brake fluid flush than deal with rust or other crap later on. I usually do it every 3 years at the most. The other items are definitely an upsell. My father in law worked at a Ford dealership.

A throttle Body Injector is essentially a carburetor modified to use fuel injectors (my 92 Suburban has this). As Detroit was moving into the fuel injection world this enabled them to keep an assembly line that used carburetors while making it a fuel injection engine. This was the transition from carburetors to individual cylinder fuel injection. The current F150s have a port fuel injector at the inlet valve and a direct injection into the cylinder. It's thrue that brake fluid is hygroscopic. However, if you haven't opened up the system in some way, the probability of absorbing water/humidity is low.

I don't think its an industry secret anymore that local dealerships likely make half of their revenue from service alone, so bet your bottom dollar you are being upsold. The whole point of "oil change packages" is to get you comfortable with the dealer so when you eventually do need service you look back on how good they treated you before and that's when they slap a pretty penny on the service you requested. For older vehicles where they might offer an oil change package (buy 3 get the 4th free), its an optimum time to slide the ole "your blinker fluid is getting low, we can top that off for you" and change your air cabin filter for $200.
