@kmaximus,

Thanks for all the details you added. I'm glad it all worked out for you. After digging into the service manual some more, I was right, my truck has tail lights that support onboard scales. This explains why my "K" harness didn't fit. The description for the "K" harness says Less Mass Movement Sensor which I'm pretty sure is onboard scales. But as I mentioned I don't have them. I'm guessing you also don't have them.

So this pretty much means that trucks with the light grey led light connector is for tail lights that support onboard scales and black for those without it. Maybe it was a parts shortage or something for why some trucks without onboard scales have led tail lights that have them in. That's super annoying but at least explains why it doesn't fit. So I guess this is a warning for others that try this, check the color of your tail lights connector before ordering your harness.

I'm pretty sure I'm past my return window for my "K" harness if they would even accept it. I think I'm going to dig into what it would take to make an adapter to convert the connector from black to light grey. Fun times ahead...
Sorry to hear that! That's correct I didn't have the scales either and would agree "less mass movement sensor" represents the scales.

Good luck with the adapter....with the pinout's shared in this forum it may be worth getting some plug pin keys and adjusting the wiring to work for what you have.

thanks so much for updating this thread.

Did you have to modify any pins or connectors?

or was the J harness plug and play, with a switch and two bed lights?
you will need 2 other cables that are interconnects between the lights and harness:

Wire Jumper - Left, Center Part#:ML3Z14A411F

Wire Jumper - Right, Center Part#:ML3Z14A411D

these are what I used based on info early on in the thread.

Just wanted to add my experience to this. My 24 XLT 302A was not pre-wired.

I wanted to make this as plug and play as possible without replacing the full rear harness. The only soldering I did was the two LED hot wires together and the ground wires into 1.

I used DT connectors and made my own harness. I cut the lower plug off the factory jumper harnesses and crimped on some DT pins. Since I was not pre-wired, I used T taps at C408 under the bed for power, switch, and ground.

Parts I ordered:

ML3Z-14A411-D Passenger jumper
ML3Z-14A411-F Driver jumper
FL3Z-9C888-B Switch
JL3Z-13A756-A Lights (you need two)

This was my first harness, I ran two connectors originally but later changed it to a single 4-pin connector on the side that has the switch to clean it up.

I used T taps and tapped three wires, pin 28 is for the positive going to each LED, pin 31 is going to the switch and pin 44 is ground.

I modified the OEM jumpers with a matching DT connector on the end to mate up to my harness.

Plugged everything in under the truck and enabled the required settings in forscan and everything works like a champ.

So basically ,you eliminated spending 200 bucks on the main tail light harness that you could have plugged those jumpers into.and you did not have to forscan anything.is that the main point of this? Hey, I applaud you.my situation is a 2024 xl.i actually bought the list of bed light parts.i believe the harness was for a 24 crew cab XLT.everything went in smoothly.i for scanned as shown.Nothing! It's very frustrating .I was hoping someone had any ideas that could help?

I still had to make the changes in forscan but I did not want to waste the money and time on buying and replacing the entire rear harness. I could have bought the OEM harness and made it 100% plug and play but I only spent about $25 on the DT connectors and had the wire and harness tape laying around.

Good write up with the pics, dirtygovnuh!

Strymar57, check page 3 as well GR8BBQ pioneered tapping into the existing harness with some good info for his experience

There's 2 paths in this thread for completing adding led lights to your truck bed. Replacing the harness or tapping in. Preference and cost win out. I wanted it to be completely OEM and opted to replace the harness. I rewired, spliced and tapped into just about everything on my 2012, felt like going a different route this time.

Lots of great info on this thread for either option

Quick Update
  1. It seems r3lz13A409E or J have the options we need for LED taillights, no scales, and bed lamps. r3lz13A409G is what my VIN suggests on parts.ford.com (no bed lights). J would be the equivalent with bed lights based on the description and a check I did using another VIN.
  2. I've verified the upstream harness is the same for trucks with bed lights vs. no bed lights. parts.ford.com shows r3lz14405AL for both. This is great news!
  3. I went through every wire in each harness, making a spreadsheet list and pinout for each. The small white/green and green/violet wires dead-end in our upstream connector. These colors match the wire colors shown in the photos I posted above of the factory bed lamp harnesses. White dummy pins currently block these wires on the downstream side. See photo below
  4. Next, I needed to find the pins to attach to our new wires (unless you want to replace the entire harness which I don't want to do since its 200-300 bucks). I got the part number from that main connector (7297-0094-30) and found the drawings from Yazaki. Just google the number and you'll see that connector.
Reading through the drawing notes, I found the compatible pins/terminals for the smaller wires are 7195-0157-02. Again, google that number and you can see those. These would attach to our new wires and plug into the main connector after we remove those white dummy pins. I'll have to look at the ground more since it already goes through the connector to the taillights.
Using the connectors would keep everything in the factory connectors and able to quick disconnect. The other, perhaps simpler, option would be to just pull those white/green and green/violet wires out of the upstream side and properly connect those directly to our new wires.
I can post more details later, but I'm getting close to ordering parts and giving it a shot. Just need to decide/research the last few pieces.

If anyone has a 2024 service manual and could post the bed lamp wiring, that would be helpful/comforting. The bed lamp wire colors mentioned above match what I took photos of on other 24 trucks, but they do not match bed lamp drawings I've seen posted of other 21-23 trucks. You'll see green/blue on those.

Hi,I have a 2024 xl.i did buy the E harness and the OEM jumpers a switch and lights.i enabled them through forscan and guess what? They don't turn on.so that E harness is from a 2024 xLT crew cab 120 inverter and that's it.i did not hook up an inverter although the plug is under my truck now are you saying that they will not work because of white dummy pins? Any help would be great thanks

Good evening, have anyone successfully installed and got a 2024 F 150 XL short bed to work. I installed and did the forscan and the lights will not come on.

2024 f150 I installed OEM harness and jumpers switch and lights.tried to enable through forscan.nothing turns on? Any ideas? Now the harness was 2024 XLT crew cab with bed lights and an inverter .now,I now have a harness with a plug for inverter,I don't think that would be preventing my bed lights from turning on do you?

I have not. I'm curious what @kmaximus "J" harness is going to look like.

And unfortunately it's not as simple as checking if the harness has Lighting Package Level A on it since there are apparently different LED tail lights.

I may look into modifying my LED tail lights or create an adapter to fit the "K" harness. I was looking at the 2024 service manual and I found the pin outs for my "K" harness and my original "H" harness. My "H" harness has one extra pin in the connector.

@kmaximus, can you confirm if your LED tail lights have the black or grey connector?

@SquigglyBrace (and others) - out of curiosity, What is your 13A049 harness suffix code? I have a late(Sept/Oct) MY24 Lariat PB with 7.2kw no bed-lighting, no scales that I am trying to hunt down the correct harness to add factory lights. Mine is oddly enough 13A409 - EBD which has not been referenced here and further to add to the mystery my VIN does not come through on Ford Parts as a 3.5 PB but rather a standard 3.5 EB so I'm struggling on determining my current wiring harness configuration but assuming its "...Crew Cab, Tail lamps - Level 3, Less Lighting Packages, Remote Controlled Tailgate Release, Power Inverter # 4 (or #5?), less On Board Scale"
