SquigglyBrace, I have definitely NOT cracked the code...hopefully my 2nd swing at bat is a good one with this J harness. should be here in a few days.

the variations are crazy on these things...very over engineered
Have you found a harness that will work?

My J harness arrives today, will check it out see if it's a winner.

previously I posted this:
for those wondering which harness...using https://parts.ford.com/ and looking up your existing harness part number should show you the accessory connections to match against.

for example:

Part #: RL3Z13A409G <- which matches my "DAD" harness

Usage: 12/18/2023, F150, Crew Cab, Tail lamps - Level 3, Less Lighting Packages, Dearborn Plant Build, Less Mass Movement Sensor, Power Inverter #1

compared to:

Part #: RL3Z13A409E <- matches the "BEE" harness I received

Tail lamps. Lighting Package Level A. Power Inverter #1. Dearborn Electrical Vehicle - Crew Cab.

Logic still applies, you'll need to look under your truck to get the existing part number and search off that to find a match.

If you go on fords website and you are building an XL truck, there is no option for rear zone lighting.nust chrome bumpers wheels and fogs.than go and start building a xLT or stx you will see rear zone lighting .so how could a harness under you're vin possibly work? If it was never a build option?

I have not. I'm curious what @kmaximus "J" harness is going to look like.

And unfortunately it's not as simple as checking if the harness has Lighting Package Level A on it since there are apparently different LED tail lights.

I may look into modifying my LED tail lights or create an adapter to fit the "K" harness. I was looking at the 2024 service manual and I found the pin outs for my "K" harness and my original "H" harness. My "H" harness has one extra pin in the connector.

@kmaximus, can you confirm if your LED tail lights have the black or grey connector?

SquigglyBrace, the J harness is a winner for my install. it arrived this afternoon and got everything installed and activated.

the RL3Z13A409J I ordered translates to RL3T-13A409-DCE (this is what I received)

I confirmed before pulling the old harness out that the led taillights worked. Connector is a match:

Also verified all the other connectors fit as expected for the bed lights:

Before starting, definitely remove the spare tire. So much better with it out the way to move around....then on to pulling out the old harness it was the hardest part for me. bit of tug work to get these clips pulled. I recommend disconnecting everything on the taillight side before you get under the truck to keep from having to get up and down (I'm getting old!)

New harness in place, pushed all the tabs in, everything lined up exactly. At this point, I tested both taillights and inverter. Good to go there.

After putting the spare back and and reverifying the tails etc was still working as expected. I fired up Forscan and proceeded to enable the 3 spots identified in the BdyCM. Called out in this tube video that was previously referenced:

"Bed Lamp" = enable
"Rear Exterior Courtesy Lamp Switch Input" = 2 - Manual Puddle
"Rear Exterior Courtesy Lamp Type" = 1 - Bed Lamp

And...now I got some bed lights! I'm going to have to paint some around the switch, the spray on didn't cover enough area there (hence it being unclipped from the bed)

Not a hard job once you get the right parts :) Hope this helps others attempting this. Again, thanks everyone prior to me paving the info path for this install, much appreciated!

@kmaximus,

Thanks for all the details you added. I'm glad it all worked out for you. After digging into the service manual some more, I was right, my truck has tail lights that support onboard scales. This explains why my "K" harness didn't fit. The description for the "K" harness says Less Mass Movement Sensor which I'm pretty sure is onboard scales. But as I mentioned I don't have them. I'm guessing you also don't have them.

So this pretty much means that trucks with the light grey led light connector is for tail lights that support onboard scales and black for those without it. Maybe it was a parts shortage or something for why some trucks without onboard scales have led tail lights that have them in. That's super annoying but at least explains why it doesn't fit. So I guess this is a warning for others that try this, check the color of your tail lights connector before ordering your harness.

I'm pretty sure I'm past my return window for my "K" harness if they would even accept it. I think I'm going to dig into what it would take to make an adapter to convert the connector from black to light grey. Fun times ahead...

thanks so much for updating this thread.

Did you have to modify any pins or connectors?

or was the J harness plug and play, with a switch and two bed lights?

It’s plug and play along with Forscan updates.
