Having owned a Ranger I'd say it has PLENTY of grunt. That little turbo spooled up right fast and in a hurry. I towed 5000# over mountains with it, until, well... kaput.
That 2.3 could use some strengthening. And coupling it with a hybrid would do wonders for output, but it would severely reduce payload. As it stands my PB has like 40# more payload than my Ranger did.
It does make me wonder why the 3.5 isn't the base model for the Super Duty. Or a very cheap upgrade from the stock 6.8L. I was surprised, and disappointed, that Ford didn't roll out a Hybrid Super Duty for this generation. The PPoB is just so GOOD and being able to run EVERYTHING with the engine off/armed is simply amazing. When I drive literally anything other than my PB I wonder "why is the engine still on?"
