4th gen 5.0 punching above its weight class as usual. What is so impressive is the 5.0 pulling away from the PowerBoost on all the roll races. From a dig the PB had it every time, but from a roll the 5.0 had it every time. These trucks were CLOSE.

Added on 1/2/24, E-85 tuned 5.0 V8 Platinum vs 93 Tune Gen 2 Rapor 3.5 V6 HO. 5.0L beat the Raptor handily, E-85 magic!

Description says both are bone stock
Awesome

I’m so impressed with this motor, I just keep hearing more good things about forged internals which was rare as hens teeth when smog stuff came out back in the day

I wonder what the weight difference is between the two trucks, 302A vs a 502A. We all know the powertrain and frame are heavier on a PB but I am not even considering that.

Cool race. Looks like they are both rolling on oem 20s, so no difference as oem 18's vs oem 22's would be a noticeable change. I'd like to see how the 3.5 EB stacks up too. Less power than the PB, but 5-600lbs less weight.

I wonder if the PB was getting warm and computer was holding back a little bit towards the end too.

But I've owned almost identical configurations of both and concur that above 30mph, each truck feels about the same at sea level.

really need to monitor the SoC on the PB, battery is not that big.

I was thinking the same thing. If you’re not at full charge and your brake torquing the PB, you may be depleting all of what’s available in the battery. At which point you have an EB with 600lbs of ballast. I’m sure you’re also getting some degree of heat soak after multiple runs like this.

PB would be at a disadvantage because of weight and the 5.0 will be in it's powerband the entire time during the shifts. Nice rips!

I think with the 3.5EB would win if equipped similarly since it does not have the PB weight disadvantage.

Here is a power to weight ratio comparison for the engineers out there:

I owned two very similar 21+ F150's (5.0 and Powerboost)

Both trucks had: no sunroof, 4x4, 18" wheels, standard e-locker axle for the engine, platform running boards, no bed liner, no step. The 5.0 did have fx4 which probably added 40lbs.

The following weights were deducted from the payload sticker on each truck.
PB
430hp / 5685lbs = 0.0759 hp/lb

5.0
400hp / 5053 lbs = 0.0791 hp/lb

PB Options:
(lariat 500a 4x4 with b&o, trailer tech, chrome running boards and Copilot assist)

5.0 Options:
(Xlt 302a 4x4 with Chrome pkg, console, FX4, Trailer Tow, Copilot 360 Assist)

AND If you want to do this For an xl Base 4x4 Supercrew:
Ford F-150 5.0 vs PB runs Screenshot 2023-12-14 at 10.45.33 AM

PB
430hp / 5517lbs = 0.0779 hp/lb

5.0
400hp / 4912 lbs = 0.0814 hp/lb

The 5.0 (or the 3.5 ecoboost) is the winner again.

I've been saying this for a while, but the Ecoboost is probably fastest engine in the lineup from the factory assuming all the same other options. Similar power to weight ratio as the coyote, but you get way more torque way earlier. The only way a coyote compares in speed is with E85.

I think if ford had put a 2x heavier battery in the powerboost, it would become obvious that it's not as fast as the others. (Bigger electric motor, maybe would help, but at some point cost an engineering time have limits)

BTW ford engineers were smart and gave out a (relatively) lightweight lariat PB to Motortrend/C&D to get acceleration times, vs the fully decked out Long Bed King Ranch 5.0 with 20's motortrend tested.

Not trying to knock the PB. It RIPS from a dig and is an awesome platform. Without covid used car prices, I would still be driving it.

The only things we know for sure from that video is that the PB had a passenger onboard with a camera out the window on the horrible speed up then slow down then go roll starts lol.

The back to back truck length and still pulling away runs were nice though ;)

You are trying. It's just not working.

Off topic, but I sometimes wonder how good any given engine would be if Ford only offered 1 or 2 engines in the lineup?

There was no truck length pull, the 5.0 never fell much behind the tailgate of the PB before braking on the digs. Truck length would be a trucks distance between the trucks. This is where they stood before the red truck hit the brakes. That’s the same as claiming a truck length pull for the 5.0 on the roll lol. Just not what happened in either scenario.

But how fast can it get your fridge and tv going? Lol. Don’t take this too seriously - WE ALL MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE.

Umm, that’s exactly what a truck length pull is. It was ahead by one full truck length, because they started even and when the race ended, the 5.0’s nose was even with the PB tail gate
