Has anyone done heavy towing over lots of miles with their 5.0? Trying to gauge how well this motor takes a beating. Rentals tend to live harder lives.

Cheers.

Hope it’s a smoking deal as there are a lot of downsides to buying a previous rental.
They get beat on pretty significantly for the miles
People usually rent them to tow and usually don’t know the limits or how to tow etc so not using tow haul mode or overloading.
The title history will have commercial use on it so might affect things like resale and insurance rates

Upside is could be a great price
You know it’s had maintenance done

It’s not like one of those Home Depot ones but like enterprise?

Thanks. You were right I had my buddy check it out and it was beat to cr**.

Now I need help between:

New XLT chrome in Silver
- FX4
- Column shifter!! and HUGE open Console
- Lighter interior which is nicer

and

New XLT Sport in Space White
- B&O 8 speaker (sounds better than the 7 speaker system)
- Console shifter and cave-like , but more premium interior

The Sport is much sleeker with a better stereo, BUT the chrome has an E-Locker, feels much brighter and bigger inside, and is 1k cheaper.

Any thoughts on resale or experience with either are appreciated. I suck at deciding these things.

No tow package means max towing is 7,000 pounds for the 5.0L and 3.5 Eco. And only 6,000 pounds for 3.3 and 2.7 Eco. Just be aware of that. Still a decent amount, but you asked about “heavy towing” which equipped as such won’t do.

Thanks. Yeah I wont be towing more than than 7k. Small boats, maybe a very small camper. Will be doing light offroading, but nothing heavy... The elocker might be the breaker.

But the sport is a really nice truck.

Yeah, but in the mountains where I am, 5.0 engine braking (and noises) is nice. And I also love the +30hp it makes stock on e85.

As a Lariat owner with the console shifter, man I’d be leaning towards the one with the column shifter. I had a 2018 STX and quite like the storage where the console shifters are on the higher trims.

But honestly, sometimes you show up and one will just speak to you on a telepathic level. Lol.

To me though, I’m picking the the cheaper one, As nice as that Space White one is.

Same, haha! Tho it’s easy to say you’ll be pragmatic and pick the cheaper one, it’s hard for a big vehicle purchase to NOT be emotional (and easy to justify just a few more dollars here and there, lol!).

Im not a chrome fan so I’d pick the white one. And personally, I’d only take the column shifter if it came with front bench seat (that’s my personal preference); the console shifter is alright, I’m not for/against them. Its a comfortable place for the hand to rest, I’ll say that much!

Thanks guys. So long story short, went to a different dealer to sit in the different interiors and turns out they had a blue chrome package with
Trailer Tow, FX4 AND Copilot assist.

2k mile loaner so they beat the price of the cheaper silver too!

Here are some pics. 55otd after tax/fees with 0% was a pretty good steal imo.

The console shifter is awesome, but after my base 500a lariat powerboost (sold last year), the 5.0 is a total sweetheart.

Sounds mean above 3k, and though it drinks in the city, the 5.0 actually is more fuel efficient on same highway routes as my powerboost was.

I will tell you for a fact that an engine running on E85 is CLEANER internally than one that only runs only on gas. No need to be paranoid about E85. Some of us have been running it for a very long time in other platforms that were not even fuel flex with no issues! Only thing I recommend is a catchcan and frequent oil changes. Don't be going no damn 7500-10,000 miles without an oil change. Also, run a tank of gas through it every 6 months or so.

Ecoboost shines in the mountains, it loses less power at elevation. My last f150 was a 5.0 and it was fine, but this 3.5 EB has low and midrange like whoa... Top end is about the same between the two. That's with me at 700ft. In the mountains, the 5.0 is going to be a bit more sluggish.

Agreed. I put 40,000 miles on my 2015 5.0 using nothing but e85 without an issue. Has 88,000 miles now and getting ready to sell her. 4000 mile oil change Intervals with occasional Lucas fuel conditioner and she runs great.

Great choice. Also, you live in a beautiful area of the country.

I wouldn't touch a rental with a 10 foot pole. Not surprised it was in bad shape.
