I only do that on flat ground in wide open areas...

Falling off a mountain just doesn't sound very fun to me. ?‍♂

The PB is easily the heaviest 4WD vehicle I’ve owned, and in 2H with TC engaged it is difficult to break the tires loose on dry pavement.
I was out playing last night and spun through 1st and 2nd gears, shifted to 3rd and broke loose, again, traction off. Truck said torque was at 740ftlbs.

Haven’t needed anything but 2H yet. This truck weighs 3 tons and has plenty of grip. I might need 4H a few times next winter, maybe, but good tires are better than any drive modes with a decent wheelbase like this.

I’ve had other trucks that needed to lean heavily on 4A whenever a single rain drop fell, I just haven’t needed it in this truck! (Cough cough, ZR2…)

Oh I’m just jelly because with 4H I think putting it in a 4 wheel drift would make spinning parts groan and bind a bit ?

2023 PB 501a 4x4 short bed 7.2KW. PL=1658lbs.
I was going to post an observation I had yesterday but I see you guys are all over this already. :)

I used to drive off road and in all weather, every day, for decades.

But in trucks without things like traction control, or drive modes. Your choices were basically 4WD HI or LOW, or not. Good tires and weight in the bed. Practically cave man stuff.

By comparison, this truck is a garage queen. If its bad weather and I don't have to, I don't. So, it hasn't been in snow yet and barely any rain.

I've used 4A a couple times when in the rain. Seems ok. Other than a very slight increase in drive train noise, not sure I can tell the difference and I might even be imagining that.

I've shifted to the other modes just to exercise the mechanisms but no real four wheeling yet.

Anyway, was creeping up grass hill yesterday and it broke traction. Switched to 4A, still broke. 4H did the trick as expected. Didn't think to mess with modes, or switching off TC.

Oh and re black ice, fortunately the cost wasn't more than experiencing some pucker, but black ice and 2H cruise control, are not happy companions. Learned that in my last truck, on some bridges right at the 32F mark. I'm assuming 4A and or traction control would help with that?

If you have a 2022 and up TOD (lariat, king ranch, plat, limited), your entire driveline is always spinning. Leaving it in 4a is really the best approach. The only difference when 4a is pressed is that the transfer case will apply pressure to the clutch as needed. I'd be really surprised if you saw any difference (unless traction limited) between 4a and 2h. 4h just applies max force on the clutch but it can still slip. Raptor and tremor will fully lockup the transfer case in 4h, and will shut off the front driveline while in 2h.
Can you explain the difference in the 2021 trucks

Its funny you call out the ZR2... my last truck was a diesel ZR2 and at about 40k miles into my ownership I gave it a bit too much on the stock goodyear duratac tires while making a left turn onto a wet freeway ramp; I found myself suddenly pointing the wrong direction

...new wildpeak at3w's went on that week and it never happened again. The stock duratracs were pretty slippery on wet pavement after about 20k miles, and near worthless in the rain and noisy as hell by 40k
