Hi folks , heard something today and just wanted to ask on here about it. My 2022 3.5 Ecoboost , should I let the engine run for a couple minutes after I park before shutting off because of the turbos? I normally give it a descent enough warm up from cold before driving anywhere and that’s about it . Thanks

Ordinarily, no, it isn't necessary, but there seem to be exceptions. I have read from several sources that if the turbos have been working harder than usual - let's say towing (or especially towing in hilly/mountainous terrain), or been giving your truck an extended "spirited run" - then yes, it is a good idea to to let the engine idle for a few minutes prior to shutdown.

If towing or very recently did some WOT runs (especially tuned) I would say yes. I live a mile in off a main road so I'm basically idling through the neighborhood and just shut it off when I get home as that is enough turbo cool down.

These turbos are not like the old days when it was recommended to do so. They are designed for auto stop/ start .

On my the 3.5 PowerBoost, the engine is usually already off for a minute or so as I pull around the corner and into my driveway so I don't have much choice, lol.

Only after sustained boost under heavy load, and even then the best way to cool down is to engine brake or second best just drive around with a light load and let all the temps stabilize.

These are water cooled turbos which should eliminate the oil coking associated with hot turbos from the 80s and 90s that didn't have turbo timers. Probably also no need to let the car warm up unless you are in the tundra. Just fire it up and drive easily until it comes up to temp. The gentle drive should get it up to temp quicker than idling.

Here's the issue: if the turbo is spinning when you shutdwon the engine, oil stops being fed to the turbos. In my case I have a store I stop at just over the top of a long climb. I've found the engine will cycle off (PowerBoost) right as I crest the top. So I downshift climbing up to keep the turbos off.

Unless you're driving on boost, heavily, then just come flying in to your garage, you'll be fine otherwise. I like to stay off boost for a few mins before coming home in my enthusiast cars, and I've ripped out so many turbo timers over the years.

Not necessary. The coolant pump will keep running for a short time to circulate coolant. Believe it or not these things are considered when truck engines are designed.
