Only after sustained boost under heavy load, and even then the best way to cool down is to engine brake or second best just drive around with a light load and let all the temps stabilize.

I am going to provide an update to this thread.
After resetting the adaptive tables, and about 5000 miles of mixed driving in the city and highways, my downshift clunks coming to a stop are completely gone. For the record: I did nothing else, did not touch the fluid or anything. It seems like...
If only it was more serviceable. At the dealer as well a fluid and filter change is typically over $500. I think the best compromise is to do a drain and fill yourself with a fluid transfer pump. Even if you don't change the filter at least you can get some fresh ULV in there..
I experienced the rough 4-3 downshift for a while after resetting my adaptive tables. For me it was a clunk you could feel and/or hear. It went away after approximately 3000 miles of city driving. My theory is because the 10R80 likes to upshift early and hold higher gears as long as possible, at...
Yeah its normal then. I find the torque converter lockup strategy in the 10r80 is tuned for fuel economy and emissions first and foremost. Comfort is an afterthought unfortunately. Almost all the hard shifts, jerks, clunks, are when the transmission is shifting the the TC locked, or when it is...
Old thread, but in case you were still having this issue, do you feel the 6-5 downshift on coast down (no brake/throttle)? Because I know in normal mode on that 6-5 downshift on coastdown, the torque converter will unlock as you downshift into 5th, that may be why you feel a "surge" forward. I...
Definitely want to tune mine. I've been holding out for some time because it seems like the 23 PCMs are still locked, and you have to swap to a 22 PCM and copy contents to be able to tune. I've looked into the Ford Performance tune, maybe that's the way to go. Unfortunately it voids any ESP from...
Yeah I never ever get those "slacky" clunky downshifts in sport or tow/haul.. which imo confirms my theory that normal mode is just way too aggressive with the torque converter lockup and hanging on to high gears way more than necessary. Sport is very proactive in downshifting so the trans won't...
So it's been about 4500 miles since they reset the adaptive tables. It's pretty smooth now on the downshifts.. but it took a very long time to learn. Occasionally I still do get a clunk if I have to brake to a stop awakrdly from a high gear/low rpm- it's really hard to explain when it does this...
Yep the same startup sound in my OP for sure. I'm not even sure these owners noticed in those videos lol. But I have keen ears. Perhaps this is just something these trucks do in the cold.
Interesting. Wonder what it is then. If that's the case then it's not the same sound related to the waste gate actuator me and Wayne were discussing earlier.
I think I know exactly what you are talking about. Is it like a scraping/clicking noise that happens twice? Like two quick scrapes. It always just happens as soon as the truck idles down for me too. I believe its the wastegate actuator and is normal.
Yeah, I know that, and it doesn't sound anything like cam phaser rattle either.
So I'm at a loss what it is, maybe it's normal. It sounds like something is clicking/engaging. If you listen my video closely you can hear those "clicks", right as soon as the engine starts you can hear 2-3 of them...
Are you talking about the squeaky belt? That wasn't the sound I was talking about in my post. But usually it sounds like that if its a humid morning and I washed the truck the previous day. Goes away in less than half a minute.
The sound I was talking about was those like 3-4 clicks/pings at...
