I think both the 3.5 eco boost and the new 2021+ 5.0 are equally as reliable nowadays. Yes the 3.5 has turbos, but the 5.0 also has cylinder deactivation and a belt driven oil pump. Either way, just get an extended warranty. Buy whatever the f*** you want and be happy!

If you want KISS reliability, get one with a battery. Which is the most reliable / least maintenance / least amount of things to break? The one with the battery. If you do a "pretend" maintenance fund for it when you'd normally service an ICE, you'll have the battery paid for when it needs servicing in 10 or so years. Change the coolant every 5 years and the gearbox oil every 50k or so.

What’s sad is somehow both of your personal identities / and sense of self worth is tied to your powertrain choice. Your defense mechanism is to go after me personally, it’s rather immature. You both should reflect on this. As I mentioned, every powertrain from Ford has its issues, some more than others. Anyway, good luck I hope your trucks stay reliable. I prefer to interact other more professional and mature individuals.
I wasn’t going for professional or mature. I thought I left enough clues for all to see with my repeated references to a dead horse.

I went after your logic with my tongue firmly implanted in my cheek. Perhaps I overshot the mark.

I think the 5.0 is an amazing engine as is the 3.5EB. I would not describe either as simple or uncomplicated. The hybrid portion of the PB certainly adds complexity and for some including me it was worth the risk.

I hope you enjoy your truck as much as I do mine.

I looked through Consumer Reports for the reported reliability of a 700hp supercharged 5.0 F-150 and couldn’t find it listed. ?

Yes they have to get crafty to keep a V8 in the lineup (plasma bores, high compression, dual injection, CD), but that’s why the 5.0 was created. It was created to be the most advanced V8 on the market to hit efficiency and power targets. I’d say that worked pretty well since the 5.0 is forging on while the LS and Hemi have been laid to rest in many configurations. The 5.0 today matches the 3.5 EB on emissions and fuel consumption which is a major improvement on the V8 program. The engineers have done an excellent job keeping pace with the changing regulations and competition out of this N/A motor.

As far as it not being in Platinum? Same reason the 3.5 EB is no longer in the STX and no more 2.7 in Lariat. They are streaming engines and ALL other options on top of them. It’s not that the 5.0 is bad, it’s just that a top trim truck will have the most torquey motor. It’s not that the 2.7 is bad, but a Lariat is going to come with the more powerful 5.0. It’s not that the 3.5 was bad in the STX, but not enough were sold, and they could eliminate sending them to Kansas City. Let’s be honest, choice is decreasing rapidly at Ford….its not some agenda to end the V8.

Exactly!

Ford openly declared a couple of years ago that they would be on a mission to do this streamlining. We are now witnessing, with the 2025 options, just how that looks when the proverbial pendulum has swung TOO far? At least for some percentage of consumers it certainly seems to have.
