Consumer reports has the PB as the 3rd least reliable vehicle being produced right now. Kind of sad. Also, many, including myself see fantastic highway mpg with the 5.0 / 3.73. It’s not just Ford that is limiting the 5.0c, it’s pressure from the EPA as well.

I didn't understand why a CR PB slam report (what else is new?) would get posted in a thread regarding 5.0 availability. Now I do.

You're upset that high end F-150 buyers are tired of the 5.0 because guys like me in lowly XLT PBs keep torching them effortlessly. They have stopped buying 5.0s in the upper trim levels because unless you add a supercharger it's just not as good.

I understand that lashing out at the PowerBoost with any weapon handy even sad little Consumer Reports provides a temporary salve to the wound.

Unfortunately the wound is fatal.

lol, upset? Grow up. I’m just reporting what consumer reports is saying. Their reports are based on owners reporting problems and the number of issue. If you don’t like it talk to them, not me. I personally choose a NA engine so I could supercharge it. Every powertrain has its issues, but the PB has the most statistically.

Who buys a 1/2 ton pickup for drag racing? If I'm going to 'torch' someone, it's going to be through a corner or a series of corners. Straight line stuff requires zero driver skill.

They are pretty fast, but not in comparison to a supercharged 5.0. I was close to buying one, but I talked to various dealers about their reliability and the service department and they all told me that they are having a lot of issues. Also, every single person who really what’s a fast truck buys the 5.0 and goes with a SC or twin turbo. Of course modified. Not just a few, everyone. The mod market on the 5.0 huge and the stock motor can out down 800 HP easily. There is no replacement for displacement.

Interesting video from Ford mechanics.

Who buys a half ton pickup and then goes on forums touting CR? The world is full of questions eh?

There’s nothing better than spending 80k on a new truck just so you can dump another 13k in it because the PBs are too strong ?

What’s sad is somehow both of your personal identities / and sense of self worth is tied to your powertrain choice. Your defense mechanism is to go after me personally, it’s rather immature. You both should reflect on this. As I mentioned, every powertrain from Ford has its issues, some more than others. Anyway, good luck I hope your trucks stay reliable. I prefer to interact other more professional and mature individuals.

Look, I’m not a proponent of CR, but the arguments I’ve read here are ridiculous.

Issues w/ sync or the max tow axle aren't PB issues, that's ford issues.
Theyre Ford issues that happen to impact the vehicle being reviewed.

Imagine reviewing a powertrain and dinging it for sync 4 that's in every modern ford today.
Is the reliability article specific to powertrain or to the vehicle? If it’s for the overall vehicle the rating is perfectly valid and the problems with Sync or the max tow axel would apply to vehicles that have those parts and those issues.

That'd be like adding a bed topper and then dinging it for what's ever wrong the aftermarket product.
Comparing to aftermarket parts here is more than just a stretch.

If they're not wise enough to spot such trends then they can't be trusted. PB owners have an over-sampled use of the internet.
Do you have any data to back this up? Seems like an assumption to me.

I'm not seeing too many videos where more Ford mechanics prefer to work on the 3.5EB/3.5EB PB over the 5.0... I wonder why?

Why wouldn't someone do that? Seems common for someone to prioritize reliability over dragstrip times for a 1/2 ton vehicle, no?

Yeah, it's quite bizarre.

I'm an unbiased party since I haven't made a purchase of either yet. But after having so many turbocharged vehicles, I'm ready for a naturally aspirated powertrain.

Anecdotal gibberish.

Perhaps the horse truly is dead this time ?

I'm disappointed if the Powerboost has dropped from #1 most unreliable truck sold in America.

It was one of my favorite claims to repeat if/when it had the right context. Usually when someone wanted to c a r e f u l l y disparage my truck and pretending to be polite about it.
I would just make it more comfortable for them by falling on the consumer reports sword willingly.

Now what do I do?

It's just not as poignant to own the 3rd most unreliable truck. ?
That's not a big deal. Everyone could claim that.
