Thanks Ford for the shortest new battery life span ever. Purchased new August 2023 F-150 STX, Screw , 5.0L
Battery Dead 27 months later
I now have 40k miles and even though I had reported battery draining etc to my dealer months ago “ they found nothing “

My first battery lasted 1 year. On my 3rd for my 22. Now working on solar charger. Changing power point to be hot when truck is off with forscan. Solar charger on dash while parked.

The battery in my 2013 lasted exactly 9 months from new, my time is worth more than sitting in a dealer waiting room so I picked one up at wally world and rolled on, problem solved and swiftly. Time is money!

So. now with a dead battery at 27 months on your OE battery, which has a stand-alone 36-month warranty (not tied to the 36k miles B-to-B warranty), have you sought warranty battery replacement from your dealer?

Even a good battery brand has flawed units. You do know Ford doesn't make the batteries, right? Mine lasted right at 3 years which is just about what I get from any parts store regular or AGM battery, (Auto Zone, O'Reilly's, NAPA, etc. I purchased an H7 Interstate from Costco 1 1/2 years ago and we'll see if it goes another 1 1/2 years but I just plan on being prepared to change it again. On another note, my aux 12v is still trucking (pun intended) along just fine. I use Odyssey's in my motorcycles which usually last at least 8 years. If I can get that out of my car/truck batteries, it would pay for itself. Anything less, and it's a draw given the cost of those things.

My 2023 is 2 years old and the dealer said the CCAs were down. I replaced it with a slightly larger capacity, 4yr warranty battery, not from FORD.

Thing is in the whole history of cars/trucks the emphasis has been on Cold Cranking Amps. The thinking was if you could just get the motor started the alternator could handle it from there. But now we're in an age where Amp-hours, the capacity of batteries over time, has become much more important. The ability to run applications when the motor isn't running for long periods of time is shifting what's needed in batteries. Still need CCA but the larger capacity is needed now.

I was surprised, having played around with solar cells, at what little capacity the average car battery has. I think the typical battery is only around 75Amp-hours. As you can find in other threads, the typical battery is categorized as an H6 with larger capacity ones called H7 and H8. Seems there little if any difficulty in fitting the larger batteries in the F150 and recommended.

I believe my truck sat due to chip shortages back in early 22 for about 5-6 months. (truck built in 1/22 but delivered to dealer in 7/22...
Nonetheless, that battery (H6) lasted for about 18 months? i started noticing i wasnt able to get OTA updates. I was driving my truck everyday as well to work (35-45min drive) and it wasnt helping.

Went to ford, ford replaced it with a new H6. IMO, Ford undersized the shit out of the battery for my Lariat if not all F150's.
Now, i dont drive everyday. maybe once/twice a week. i started to get the "remote features disabled" message.

got it on a charger (hopefully correctly) haha and seeing if that helps while i sit here at work.

I do think i need to bite the bullet and just grab a H8 and be done. Someone linked in another thread the Interstate Walmart has for just under $200...

My 2021 F150 still is rocking the original battery and as of now is not giving any issue's. With that said in the next few months I will be installing a H8 just to make sure things stay healthy.

Yea, my Oct 2021 lasted until spring 2022...so bought something non-OEM, and has worked flawlessly since.

This right here, especially the middle paragraph. I found out while doing research for a project I did at work that cranking amps and overall energy storage capacity are somewhat at odds with each other in lead acid batteries. Batteries with many thin plates tend to be able to produce large currents for short times (cranking amps) while batteries with fewer and thicker plates can't do that as well but can store more total energy and survive deep discharges with less damage.
