Hello all- first post:
I have a 2022 XLT Powerboost with 80k miles (no warranty) that I bought in January this year. Recently I've been having some issues where in 8th, 9th, and 10th at highway speeds, the truck will jump 500ish rpms for a second and hesitate like there is a small loss of power, but its brief. It'll do it over and over again when going up any inclines or trying to accelerate in a high gear from 75mph and up. I picked up a bass boat yesterday about 180 miles from home. It weighs about 3500lbs. Within a few miles of leaving the shop, I got stranded on a 2 lane road going up a hill in tow haul with 8,9, and 10 locked out. "Stop Safely Now". It was in 4th or 5th and just felt like the bottom fell out of the truck with zero power. I walked away while making phone calls, came back, and the truck started again so I decided to baby it home. The highway drive was pretty flat and didn't have any issues. However, when I got into town, there's a section of interstate that goes up and over a decent sized ridge. I was doing 70 in the left lane when halfway up, it did the same thing. RPMs went through the roof, no acceleration, "stop safely now". I almost got hit by 2 semi trucks and barely managed to get it over to the shoulder. Was stranded there for 2 hours while the tow truck came. Towed to my house for now. That being said, while I was waiting, I pulled codes P0771 and P2884.
The crazy thing is that once the truck was dropped in my driveway, it fired right up and is showing no CEL or SES light on the dash. Shifts in and out of gear just fine. Drove it for a few laps around the neighborhood and it seems ok, but that was only about 30mph.
I'm pretty worried about what the fix might cost. I called my local dealership and they said to bring it in for diagnosis. I've read about PCM updates fixing things, but as a mechanical engineer, I feel like something acting this badly would have to be mechanical. These new generation systems are way over my head though with all of the fancy programming. I've read about TSB 23-2351 and will bring that up to the dealer if and when I can get it over there this week.
Anyone have any suggestions or similar issues? I absolutely love the truck other than this situation.
