First time post to the forum, love the site so far.

So I have a 2022 f150 Lariat Crew cab FX4 with 5.0 roughly 43,000 miles. On occasion when I romp it to pass somebody or I hit high tach numbers, not red line, the check engine light flickers or stay solid, and I get a misfire on cylinder 4.

No just for education purposes I changed out all the coils with known good and tested brand new coils and at the same time I went ahead and did the plugs. Nothing looked bad.

Has anyone experienced this? And if so, what did you check.

Is your truck stock? If not, what performance mods do you have?

What octane do you use?

Does it make any noises or lose power during those pulls?

No modifications at all. And I use 93 in it constantly since I've gotten it. Previous owner did have it in the mud and water a few times but not deep i hlbelidve , but this is only happening under heavy load ( throttle) like when passing aggressively.

I did move coils around to see if it was the coil, it still did it but went right back to number 4....checked wiring , no cracks. Is it possible the PCM got wet.

On order ‘22 RCSB.
That would still be covered under the factory powertrain warranty right? I would take it in.

Rev limiter on the 5.0 is 7,000 rpm, it rarely ever will allow you to go over 6,800 rpm in automatic mode though. I’ve only ever hit the rev limiter of 7,000 rpm in manual mode. Yes, it cuts fuel at 7,000 and will skip if you try to exceed that but unless you are in manual mode on tranny in sport mode I don’t see that happening. Almost need live data when it happens. Oh boy, mud and water related gremlins are always a blast….

I appreciate the info, I've ruled out the Rev limiter, it did it today again while I was in sport , cruising along doing 35mph , no clue what it could be , stumbles , as if it's running on 4 cylinders, and threw a P3426 Deactivated Intake Valve Control, then came out of it on its own, but I did notice slow starting after I shut it down and restarted.

wild ass guess here, but maybe the MAF. ( mass air flow sensor.). ??
get a can of MAF cleaner at auto parts store and try cleaning it.
funky things happen when they get old or dirty. all you are out is a can of spray to try

Sounds like it’s going into CD when it shouldn’t, it’s likely going to be a wiring harness (ground issue) or bad solenoid. In sport mode it shouldn’t be dropping to 4 cylinder mode, so something is amiss. With a history of off roading and likely wet wire looms…..not sure. The solenoid and collapsible rocker itself is under the valve cover if it’s traced to that. Not a horrendous replacement but it is more invasive than something easy like a plug.

Ford has a pretty good system here, you’d be the first hard parts issue I’ve seen if that’s the case. The other two in this forum were caused by grounding issues from guys messing with the harnesses for other stuff.

Sounds like I've got some areas to look at. I'm leaning toward a ground also.

The 5.0 uses MAP sensor not MAF.
