10R80 overhaul required at 70K miles. Others with similar?

My '22 Powerboost has been shifting harder and harder and was making a GIANT clunk noise going from Park to Reverse when cold and coming out of garage. I took it in to my selling dealer expecting them to reprogram it again as they've done that 3-4 times already. Service writer called back a few hours later to report that the technician (why aren't they called mechanics anymore?) found metal in the fluid and that the trans was toast. Ford has approved an "overhaul." So, for those who have already been there, what was your experience? Will FoMoCo ship a remfg. unit or a basket of parts to the dealer? How long did it take? Anything you wish you'd known beforehand? Advice is welcome.
Oh, one other thing, my truck's ESP will cover this, per the service writer.

I guessing ford will probably put a reman trans in it instead of paying a tech to rebuild it. Hopefully parts are not on backorder

They are called technicians now because they diagnose stuff and replace parts. Mechanics actually fix stuff. Rebuilt components, not understand one part and slap on a new one.

Well, Ford approved an “overhaul”, it sounds like you got an actual mechanic working on your truck that’s gonna rebuild your transmission

An overhaul is pretty much disassemble, find the problem, re assemble with all the new parts. I’m assuming it was a CDF drum situation which has an updated part now.

Be absolutely sure you are getting the updated CDF drum. If this is a rebuild also ask for a new valve body.

With metal shavings present, I sure would hope they would install a new one immediately. But, we are talking warranty. I would definitely get a list of everything they will be replacing.

I dont recommed a new valve body , a lot of problems with them, just fix original one

For my own knowledge, how are the valve bores repaired (if worn)?

Sonnaxs , Transgo and other companies have kits for them and I’ve had real good luck using them, I just finished one up and used the Sonnaxs kit and it worked great

I certainly agree with this but when Ford is paying the bill I doubt we could change the parts list

Same situation happened to me at 26k miles on my 21 2.7 eco.. they had the truck for almost a month just for diag and they did the step by step troubleshooting before they could get approval from the warranty company to do the transmission overhaul. Got the new cdf drum, clutch packs and valve body.

My CDF drum was replaced around 65k miles. I was having extremely hard 1-3 and 4-5 shifts. No issues since then and now at 127k miles. Had dealer change my trans fluid/filter about a month ago and it is still doing fine.

I have one or two hard shifts going from 3-4 every morning. Doesn’t really matter the outside temp. Would this be the same issue??

I have a 2021 and the transmission was replaced with a new transmission this year under warranty. The new transmission is much better and I got rid of the CDF drum issue.
