disable auto start stop if you haven’t yet. that sh*t is atrocious for motor starters.
When I picked up my truck at Granger a month ago, Chip showed me a button to push to disable it, top left on center of dash. Not a permanent fix, because he said I'd have to do it every I start the truck. Not sure it all the trucks have this, but it's a regular part of my routine now.

I love that you didn't describe the necessity to reach all the way over to the button and press it as a joy sapping task of life. ?

It's simply a pre-flight checklist item!
A choice provided to the pilot.

Thank you for not feinting from the effort. It's refreshing to this old man.

Looking for some hive mind opinions.

Went to jump in my truck after parking it 5 minutes earlier, push the start button nothing happens, gets towed to Ford. 2021 ecoboost, under 18k miles, and nearly the entire time I have owned it the battery has been low enough that the autostart stop never kicks in. I drive the truck 5-6 days a week for 10 minute trips and the occasional long drive. They say the starter is the issue. My 3 year warranty expired two months ago and this is going to cost me $1,100.

I thought these starters were rated for an insane amount of starts, any idea if this is a known issue? $1,100+ is a huge bummer for a new truck should I have not used Ford (I thought it would be covered by power train)?

Any idea if they will give me the old starter or if there is a core charge or something? I am a mechanical engineer and would love to take a look at it, possible have some spare parts if this happens again?
This is kind of off topic and after the fact but when you get your truck back disable your auto start/stop.
Regardless of research and development and rigorous testing blah blah blah I can't see these starters lasting a long time especially those that are stuck in traffic on their way home.
A friend of mine works in Seattle and lives about 45 minutes away but his commute one way is about an hour and a half. He said he lost his starter at about 19 months. Disabled the auto start stop and hasn't had an issue in the last 4 years...

Auto start-stop... Don't like that feature as it puts alot more cycles on the starter. The reason, I think, Ford went to the belt starter was to reduce the cycles on the ring-gear starter. To my way of thinking the starter lifetime is measured in start stop cycles rather than miles...

Yep and if your start stopping 50 times in a one mile stretch that's way too many cycles to last long...

For $1100, I didn't even get a free bolt. Or maybe They felt I owed them more and they traded me a bolt for a zip tie. They didn't even trim the tail.

Seems weird I felt the need to crawl under the truck this morning to actually make sure they replaced the starter.

Hello, I would be happy to look into your failed starter concerns further on my end. Could you please send us a message with your VIN and mileage?

The Saga continues, I assume the updates are good for others to get an idea of what could happen?

I did turn of Start/stop, that is slick.

A few days later I had the truck struggle to start while I was not at home. I imediately drove home checked the SOC and it was sitting at 7%!! I grabbed my charger and took a drive 30+ min of freeway driving, it just barely hit 10% when I parked. My invoice says "GBATT Battery test is Good, 976ISER" then on the next page "multi point inspection ran...Battery tested good". This is after them telling me my battery was going to need to be warrantied a couple of weeks prior during my oil change, and I mentioned this specifically and the manager read it back to me while I dropped it off for the starter issue.

When I got it back I did leave it on a NOCO 5 amp charger overnight, I knew they had left it in the lot for several hours with the running lights stuck on, if not for a couple of days until they pushed it into the shop. So it has the best possible chance to still have a charge after that abuse.

I swapped out the battery on my own dime for an H8, trickled charged it before install, reset the BMS, 2 days of driving later the Forscan screen shows very normal behavior, or at least what I would expect.

The cool thing is on day one I drove it until the charging amps hit zero for at least 10 minutes. It seems the computer wants to run it all the way up to 100 percent the first time. I have it set to 85% through forscan, but it is still at 90% now. I am certain I have never seen it hit 100% before, even when they first swapped the battery out.

So it seems I had two dud batteries, and the Techs obviously never checked my battery even after spending ~$1150 for starter swap.
