I did this years ago on a 2013 F150 and figured I'd post some pictures of how to do it. It works just the same on my 2025.
I know there are aftermarket options but this is a simple and "free" one that is fun to do.
If you are comfortable with a drill and have a vice this is maybe a 30 minute job.
Summary:
Release the rear latch
Unscrew the rear latch screws (2 torx)
Step 3:
Use some needle nose pliers (or your fingers) and remove the spring as pictured
Step 4:
Drill out the hole to 3/16 (big enough to fit whatever cord/string you will be using.
Step 5:
Mark the top of the latch for where your string will pass through. I drilled 2 holes and then grinded away the center to connect them. Then I used a file to remove sharp edges.
Step 6:
Route your cord/string through the holes you made and tie it off. Replace the spring
Step 7:
Cut your string to length and finish it however you'd like up top.
I put mine on a key loop and then used the headrest post to keep the loop up top.
To release I just pull the string.
Note: Sometimes it's difficult to push the seat back and have it latch. It feels like the door is hitting a brick wall.
This is because the latch and the horizontal bar mounted to the rear wall are not aligned.
If you unlatched the seat with the seat bottom folded up, try pushing the seat back with the seat bottom folded up (same position)...or you may need to lift the horizontal bar up a 1/4 inch to re-align.

- Remove a spring
- Drill out the hole the spring goes into (I used a 3/16)
- Drill out a space at the top of the latch for your string to pass through
- Tie a string to the 3/16 hole and route it through the hole at the top of your latch
- Replace the spring
- Use the string as a release (I tied mine to a key loop and put it through the headrest post)
- Drill bits (3/16 is what I used but is helpful to start with smaller drill bits and work your way up in size)
- Some way to grind metal (I used a dremel with a carbide cutting tip)
- Some cord/string
- Pliers
- Torx bit to remove the 2 screws

- Lift up the seat bottom (this pulls the seatback away from the wall of the cabin)
- Use your phone and snap a picture of the back of the seat. You'll see the latch and you'll see a pin sticking out. Stick your hand back there and pull the pin upwards towards the roof. It will release the seat.
