23S65 - Rear Axle Shaft Repair - only if broken?

I live in VA. I got the recall notice in the mail that parts were available for the max tow rear axle shaft/bolt repair. I called both of my local dealers and both informed me that they would only replace them if they were broken. I was under the impression the parts were defective hence the recall and that all vehicles affected would be replaced whether broken or not. Has that been everyone’s experience— that it only gets replaced if broken?

second, if it is not broken at the time of inspection, is that my only chance to get the new parts or will ford honor the repair if it fails later?

Also from VA. Where are you located? Just picked my truck up yesterday from Ford. They had to take pics of my axles (which were just replaced end of March) and my vin and submit to ford for repair.

Also from VA. Where are you located? Just picked my truck up yesterday from Ford. They had to take pics of my axles (which were just replaced end of March) and my vin and submit to ford for repair.
I’m in the VA Beach area. Local dealers I use are Cavalier and Beach Ford.

I went to Cavalier (Greenbriar) they even gave me a rental…

so yeah they took pics and said once it’s approved they will call and I’ll have to schedule another appointment.

but end of March they found my left side broke. They replaced both left and right with the old part number axles so basically what came with the truck.
few weeks later the recall notice saying they have new parts came out. I called cavalier and they said bring my truck in.

Both dealers are telling me they will inspect it and only fix it if it is broken. Not happy. That’s not what the recall notice indicates to me. The way I read the notice is the parts get replaced no matter what.

I guess I’ll see what they do. Seems as if they are waiting for ford to give them the ok to fix it…

I can’t say what Ford internal documents say, but the recall letter I received was straight forward, my truck was identified as being in the recall group and therefore it will have the rear axles replaced. ‘Nough said.

That is what my dealership told me too. Only repairing trucks with broken bolts. I even read them the letter from Ford. I gave up and found another dealership to do the work. (I may make them my dealership going forward). You have to make an appt, then leave the truck. They will take pics and send to Ford for approval. They order the parts and it could take from already having them in stock to 3 weeks from what I've seen. My parts took 5 days. FORD has really dropped the ball on this recall. Every dealership seems to be doing their own thing on this one. I got my done and I'm glad I don't have to deal with broken bolts anymore. Good luck. There is another thread on this. they are NOT up to speed on the latest update. The letter says Ford WILL REPLACE both axles. Tell them to look for the letter dated May 2025. If they persist in this, contact Ford and have them contact the dealership. You should be talking to the Service Manager, not some service writer. Tell them you want to speak to the service manager. I could scan and post the letter except it is 1bout 15 iches in length. My dealership was also unaware of the follow-up letter and had to look in their system. My truck goes in this coming Monday for replacement of the axles.

My dealer did the inspection, nothing broke, set me up to have axles replaced as soon as they can get parts. June 10th.

When I had mine replaced the dealer I use just sent in a picture they had of one with a broken bolt to get the repair approved by Ford.
