I just hung up with an exporter (can to usa) this Recall is causing huge problems for shipping vehicles south. The exporter has to have that recall done before the title is issued.

I have a friend who has her "22 Navigator in the dealership for this recall. Her cameras still don't work after the software update. Ford engineers were called in and still no fix. This can't be rocket science, why is there such a big problem with the backup camera after all these recalls...?

Yeah my Canadian import had several recalls done as soon as it crossed the border. Now I have 3 more since I bought it. ?

Whoa, that's bad. Who did you export through, I bet he is mad. That exporter is sitting on a pile of money.

Waiting for delivery of my 2025 F-150. I guess I'll find out if the camera works. I'll probably look over my shoulder anyway. It's hard to trust technology.
(Us old guys were taught to back up that way.)

To be fair, I think the biggest benefit to the camera is to make sure the path behind me is clear. I turn around and look behind me as I back up to ensure I don’t hit a car, but I also look in front often. How far am I swinging? Did a kid run behind me and I can’t see them?

Our trucks sit high off the ground. If my seven year old stands behind my truck, I can’t see him. That’s where I see the biggest issue.

I start almost every drive from home backing up for about 250'

It's mostly straight, but is pretty tight between brush and trees. The backup camera is awesome for making sure that there's nothing behind me, but the driver's side mirror is the most valuable data for staying centered in the narrow lane.

So it's not an either-or for me. They are an ensemble of tools for the task.

As for the many recalls on all 3 of my current Fords under warranty.........
Sure, it'd be nice if every vehicle I acquired was so perfectly engineered and assembled that it never necessitated a single recall. But since that's not likely with the fully dolled up machines that they are? I'm glad Ford isn't shy about coming clean on their uhohs. :)

New Recall came up for my 2021 XLT today while I was checking for details on the Axle bolts. Guess it's like playing whack-a-mole to get them all cleared.

May 12,2025
Manufacturer Recall Number: 25S49
NHTSA Recall Number: 25V315
Recall Status: Recall Incomplete, remedy not yet available
Summary: ON YOUR VEHICLE, THE INFOTAINMENT SCREEN MAY FREEZE FOLLOWED BY A BLACK SCREEN AND A SYSTEM REBOOT. IF THIS OCCURS DURING A BACKING EVENT, THE REAR-VIEW IMAGE MAY BE FROZEN, MISSING, OR DELAYED.

Safety Risk: A FROZEN REAR-VIEW CAMERA DISPLAY AN IMAGE WHILE IN REVERSE CAN CREATE A FALSE REPRESENTATION OF WHERE THE VEHICLE IS RELATIVE TO ITS SURROUNDINGS, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: WHEN THE REMEDY IS AVAILABLE, FORD MOTOR COMPANY WILL SEND A LETTER TO INFORM YOU TO CONTACT YOUR DEALER TO SCHEDULE A REPAIR. THE REMEDY IS ANTICIPATED TO BE AVAILABLE IN THE THIRD QUARTER OF 2025.

Manufacturer's Notes: IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING THIS RECALL, OR BELIEVE ANY OF THIS INFORMATION IS INACCURATE, PLEASE CONTACT FORD DIRECTLY AT 800-392-3673 OR LINCOLN AT 800-521-4140.

Hey! Maybe all my deletes are paying off! No nav. No adaptive cruise. No glitches ?
The problem of couse is that you had to pay for all the features that you've deteled but the Ford can't make work anyway. I want none of this so-called technology, but can't get a comfortable passenger seat without it. So it damned-well better work.

Those who want a pickup to wipe their nose for them and are willing to accept abject mediocrity in the things that matter in order to get it - which appear to me to be the lions share of consumers of all things - have let the manufacturers sell crap as long as it has "features". Just like a crow: shiny must be good.

My good man, somethin' ain't right if you need to back 250' to get out of the dooryard. What theory of site design resulted in that situation?

Well I didn’t delete anything. Ford offered tiny credits for some features they typically provide at the 302A trim level. I was having fun with the notion that perhaps that’s why my Sync 4 has been so reliable thus far.

I would love my truck to wipe my nose, but it is already the best half-ton pickup ever made so I’m good.?

430hp/570tq getting over 20mpg and looking fabulous ?

Not a bit of buyers’ remorse. None.

That's nothing.
Once I back up that 250', I then can turn the truck sharply 90° left in front of the chicken coop, and then be pointing forward. It's about 750' to get to the frontage road.

It's called wooded
Cut the fewest number of trees down possible to preserve a lifestyle.

As for the gizmos, gadgets, and technology in my F150, I intentionally ordered it with it all. (sans the panoramic roof)
In my opinion it's the nicest truck I've ever owned in my 7 decades on the planet, and so far has been stellar! Zero regrets.

Admittedly, it's not everyone's cup of tea. I get that. I wish they still built them with hand cranked windows for those that prefer. I just purchased an F350 in barebones XLT trim, and it might have been even cooler if it had hand crankers. ?
It's a beast of a truck, but truly bare compared to my F150.

So I just had a thought. Those that are stuck in purgatory, the ones that remain…

The recall in Canada says that Ford will reach out and it should be an OTA update or bring it to a dealer for an update.

That “should” mean that the dealer will have to go through the actions of updating or, when it fails and they don’t have a month to let the USB sit in the truck, replace the APIM?

Doesn’t affect me anymore, but this could be a way for those of us who bought Job 1 trucks with the bad update and no warranty to get it fixed without the mongoose and FDRS?

Some of us older guys were taught to use the mirrors only. My grandpa when I was first learning to drive would hit me on the head if I turn it to look out the back. What is worse, at that time most cars only had one mirror, the passenger side mirror was an option.

Had to learn how to back up a 73 Chevy Caprice Station Wagon on a driveway that butted up agaist the house. My grandpa would get furious at me if I parked in the front of the house to avoid driving all the way to the back of the house.

This is my hope as well. My APIM crashes about once a week at startup and Ford has given me the run-around that they cant "reproduce" the issue when I brought it in for the problem. Maybe this will be the kick in the pants they need to finally fix my APIM, whether through software or an APIM replacement. My VIN falls within this recall fortunately, but sounds like they are still figuring out a solution.
