ECU module programming guide using FDRS

Not sure if others are aware, but a PSA for those with Tremors and wanting to upgrade to BC 1.4, Ford has not released the IPMA software needed for that upgrade. So for the time being, Tremor owners will be stuck with BC 1.0 while other trims eventually get 1.4 OTA. Pretty bummed that Tremor owners get left behind.

Tremors and Raptors haven't seen a lot of love from Ford for a while now ... with respect to keeping them "current" with the rest of the fleet.

What's really sad is that the same IPMA software for BC 1.4 for the non-Tremors works on the Tremors with no problem whatsoever.

My 2021 is showing new pending updates for both door and seat modules. Nothing I would go pay $50 to do, but FYI for those that do have FDRS and want to knock them out.

I've noticed one of the seat airbags shuts off inflation ever so prematurely, wonder if it fixes it.

Now if they could only get the APIM to revert back to AA post MCS activation.

In your case, you have the software for BC 1.4, but you may need to enable the config with FORScan to get the BC 1.4 features to work. If Jesse didn't do it for you when he fixed your IPC issue, message me and I'll tell you what you need to do to get it working.

I'm the one who helped him do it up to a certain extent. He did the actual programming, I provided the files and basic instructions. If you want to do it, that's fine, but note that if something goes wrong and you don't have a Mongoose, I can't help you fix it. So you can do it at your own risk.

Here's a simple rule, if you're not willing to replace the module, get a mongoose or take it to the dealer and have it reprogrammed, don't directly write the firmware with improvised methods. I'm trying to break my stuff, it's those of you that aren't that'll break it.
That's my piece and I'm stick'n to it.


Also, sometimes it's the only way to get something done because ford's software intentionally has limitations. It's got to be used by non-computer guys in a shop with grease under their fingernails so they ride a balance of guardrails and capability. They'd rather them replace a control unit than expand its capabilities.

guys I was in the middle of updating my camera module and during the install the my laptop shut down!

am I screwed or can this still be reflahsed? I tried to run FDRS again to connect to the module but I get no comms

I would uninstall the software, reboot, then re-install the FDRS software. Give it a try after that. I ran into similar when it wouldn't connect.

One of the faults I just triggered caused a loss of coms, I shut off truck, unplugged both ends of the cable, turned it back / plugged it back in and it was happy.

To anyone that comes across this, when doing a PMI to recover a module, make sure you select "NO" when FDRS asks if it is the original module.
