My bet us that's why they tried an ineffective software patch instead of replacing the battery... Warranty still costs someone money, so the policy is likely to try the cheapest fixes first. Just sucks that it means more driving with a broken truck, more thumbing rides to drop it for service, and more days in the shop.

I very much like hybrids but the commonsense design is to make the vehicle fully functional even with a no longer functional battery for that 3rd- 4th life.

If you imagine a plug-in hybrid with a much larger battery pack you can imagine at 250K miles the battery pack is toast and more expensive than the entire vehicle, yet the ICE has barely been used. Then the owner of the vehicle at that stage of its life, probably doesn't have a consistent parking situation but lives in apartments or the like, yet you still have a very useable vehicle and are in fact being 'green' by not tossing an otherwise totally functional vehicle.

This is just another place where a hybrid completely trumps an EV.

Tesla upped their batt game heavily. Guy has 1.7mil Km on his 3rd batt.
Ford batts are modular so you can pull out a defective cell group. That's how they warranty EV batts, just replace the weaker cell blocks until it meets the 70% capacity threshold. Tesla batts are glued together now and have zero serviceability.

That makes it seem like a no-brainer to swap the hardware, instead of rolling the dice on the cheapest fix and making the customer experience continuously bad. If the DTC's are accurate, then I have a faulted module. I think I've averaged like 13mpg in 1300 miles since I got it back from being "fixed". That's about 30-40 gallons more fuel burned than normal in 3 weeks. If they keep dodging my calls for a few more weeks, I'm going to single-handedly accelerate global warming... :cwl:

I think that's probably how these are. If I read this original post right, the "Pull over" and shutdown thing were probably related to dangerous conditions (burned wiring, etc).
I know from what I'm going through now that when my battery goes to lunch, I can still drive in gas mode. I'm just lugging along 1000lbs of electric drive parts needlessly...

Have to have battery to drive it. Dealing with this on a dealer truck now. That's 200k and low cell voltage. It has bricked the truck

What's 200k?

Mileage?
That's some serious rolling.
I'll be happy to get to 200k and need a fresh 1.5KWH battery
Yeah and the battery was only about $2600 last I looked so not terrible.

I’m assuming those are the same form factor for the PB? That’s a good deal especially brand new. Little steep on shipping but they do have a best offer option. ?
Yeah, BECM needs swapped over as do the mounting brackets from the factory battery. Same otherwise.

Hybrid batt issues are how I found this forum... I've been getting hybrid battery faults since probably 40k (immediately after warranty expired), but never a "stop now" warning.
I'd get "Generator is overloaded" faults, "Service vehicle soon", and a CEL with code P0B24. "Service Vehicle" and CEL always together, and "Generator..." warning would only come on with the other two. Electric drive is completely disabled when the faults occur.
These were originally always at a cold startup. Sometimes I could manually clear it by shutting the truck off and waiting 3 minutes, with the CEL remaining for a few more starts, then clearing itself. Then randomly occur again soon after.

I had the truck in for 60k service interval (late, at 70k), and asked for them to address this. Service writer gave the truck back and said they "reprogrammed the battery" instead of replacing it. I'm almost thinking they added some kind of diag software to stress test it, because now the faults are constant and worse than ever. I'd get a startup without a fault and think, "Hey, maybe I'll get electric this drive" and then the fault would trip after almost a mile on the electric odo. I'd really like my truck to run great again, too...
Hi, Rob. Are you still experiencing this battery concern? If so, I would like to look into it on my end. Please send over a private message with your VIN and the name/location of your local Ford dealer.

Hi, sorry, just seeing this.
I found a dealer that was willing to deal with it and replaced the battery. Still not a great experience, as it took 3 months of my truck sitting on the dealer lot.

It's been mostly trouble free since then, though I'm now dealing with a bunch of tech glitch issues that I will likely just ignore, as I'm out of warranty.

It did give me some phantom faults and warnings over the holidays, but I'd not started the truck in 3 days, so obviously the batteries had lost some voltage with disuse. I carry a jump box now anyway.
