Dealer replaced H6 battery. How long should these be lasting and what can I do to maximize life? Truck is driven on short trips and not every day. Thanks in advance!

All I can say is if you get deep sleep issues I would just pony up for a H7 or H8 if it will fit. I upgraded mine out of pocket it’s been over a year no issues. Ford batteries seem to have issues. Not to mention a H6 is pretty small for the amount of computers in the trucks.

I went interstate H7. Zero issues since changed. I have a 22 eco boost could have gone H8 but choose the 7.

Since your H6 is now newly installed, I’m guessing you don’t want to pay for a new bigger one. So I’d suggest get a 2-10 amp trickle charger that can handle AGM and plug it in maybe at least monthly until it fully charges your battery. That seems to help longevity. Noco is pretty good brand of charger- I have their 10 amp one.

Hook up the red clamp of charger to the positive post of battery. Because of the Battery Monitoring Sensor, hook up black clamp to the flat part of the foot-ish long wire that comes off the negative post, or hook up to its chassis mount bolt at the end of it. You have to be “on the other side” of the BMS (not clamped directly on the negative post). That way the BMS will register the amperage going in and properly identify your state of charge while charging.

Forget the bandaid charger and just fix it right, piece of mind is worth a lot.

When it fails again go with largest aftermarket battery that will fit. H7 for Powerboost, H8 for everything else.

I hope you get long life out of it.

Until you upgrade the battery to an H7 or H8 install a Noco 2D. I have them on ALL my vehicles.

I replaced mine at 4 months... Just an off the shelf, catalog specified battery from NAPA. Not a peep out of the electrical system since... ~3 years & 2 Wyoming winters under the belt... As I see things its getting rid of the Ford Battery that fixes things.

As the OP stated, he doesn't drive the vehicle daily and with the parasitic draw the newer vehicles have, using a trickle charger is not a band aid, it is battery militance to keep the battery charged so it doesn't get too low and then die early. Especially since he stated, "Short Trips" and not daily. Unless you are driving 30-45 min on these short trips, you are using more juice than you are replacing and eventually (especially in the colder months) you will drop your voltage and be screwed.
