Retired Local 103 IBEW Boston Electrician. Many jobs in the area but a few stand out.. Helped build the sewage treatment plant in Boston, (the aircraft lights you see on the tower when flying into Logan were installed by me), and the Super Max Prison in Florence Colorado. Spent most of my career at the Boston Garden, making sure the lights stayed on for the 2008 Celtics Championship and Bruins 2011 Championship

I have 12 3/4 years left. I'm too far in to get out now.
I had around 10. I knew I wasn't going to make it, so I switched to a job that's still the same retirement system and same number of years left. Plus, I made $20k more my first year at a prison.

Honestly, they're not very different jobs. Except in prison, there's still consequences for their actions.

All jobs are important, from cooks to draftsmen to engineers to janitors to mechanics.

No one position is more important than the other, it takes everyone.

The prisons I've worked in- minimum security women's and men's- aren't too bad. I'd honestly rather deal with minimum security inmates than HS kids.

I don't want to work in a max place though. I don't think I'd be good with that every day. Although the max place people tell me you have less interaction with the inmates there than at a minimum place.

I've done some electrical work at some max prisons in FL, we had essentially no contact with the inmates. I remember standing around with a CO one time outside the rec field where a bunch of inmates were, and he pointed to a guy that I would have guessed was there for embezzlement or tax evasion, he looked so normal. He said "that guy raped a 7 year old". It was scary how normal he looked. You get the idea you can spot something different about these people, and sometimes you just can't. That kinda rattled me.

Certified dirty scuba instructor. My license plate should been your first clue. Deep diving is my specialty, particularly in dark damp caverns where proper use of a (lengthy) snorkel, is essential. Maintaining a calm and steady, breathing rate can sometimes be a challenge!
