Dual Exhaust Tip Alignment

My truck has the dual exhaust (didn’t really want it but it’s part of the BAP on Lariat) and the left exhaust tip is not centered or straight in the bumper cutout. No damage, truck is brand new. Can the location be adjusted? Dealer doesn’t seem to think so, I’ve never messed with exhaust so I’m hesitant to start cracking bolts loose.

If it’s bolted you can’t hurt anything by undoing it a little to see if you can move it around for better position in cut out.

Congratulations on the new truck!

Unfortunately the adjustment is limited. The tip connects to the tail pipe using an ocular socket style connection. The tip also has a hanger that attaches to the trailer hitch that also has some adjustment.

I converted my single exhaust to the OEM dual exhaust and had a similar issue. I was able to balance both sides so they at least match, but slightly to the inner part of the cut out.

Thanks Tex. Is the ocular socket prone to leaking if messed with? My first thought was to loosen the two hangers and the ocular socket, manhandle the tip into alignment, and tighten everything down.

Beyond that it looks like a torch and hammer would be needed. I’m not doing that for a cosmetic flaw.

Is the ocular socket prone to leaking if messed with?
Not that I experienced and trust me my OCD kicked in so I fiddled with the alignment a lot. When you loosen the hanger bracket on the trailer hitch you get a little more up/down and side to side adjustment.

I know others who took there setup to a muffler shop to help bend the tail pipe section out more to help.

What I am wondering about is can they be adjusted in and out? I guess you could call it the depth as they sit inside the bumper. Upon delivery of my truck the bumper was damaged. They had to replace the bumper.

When I picked it up the bumper was far too low. You could see the spare tire and the wiring. I picked it up again last night, and now one tip is almost flush with the bumper while the other one is more inside. The bumper looks straight.


I think I know the answer to this one. When I took delivery of my truck one exhaust tip was lower than the other. They told me they just bend the bracket. Honestly it looks like a pain in the ass to do a rear bumper alignment with those exhaust tips. Now I wish I just would have bought the regular exhaust. I could have purchased 20-in tires that I wanted and then did dual side exit exhaust.

I had the same issue, you can unbolt the end pipes and wiggle them. Also were the pipes go to the muffler you can adjust them. Did it lying under the truck, gonna perfect it on a bridge at my local shop next week. More space to use some force.

I installed the Borla midsection on my truck and there is a significant amount of wiggle room where the tailpipes bolt to the mufflers, to aid in adjustment, if you can't get just the tips dialed in correctly.

Like Texas Truck I converted mine form single to duals using all ford parts and tip alignment has driven me nuts. If your truck came factory with the duals I would grab a wooden broomstick and shove it in the tip and pry it where it looks right.

Not to sidetrack the conversation, but what does a Borla midsection consist of? Does it work with the factory dual tail pipes? Part number if you have it?

I see… Borla makes this now…. Interesting… wish it came in the Touring though… They offer S-Type and Atak…

You can also simply loosen the nut on the tip clamp and try repositioning it if the broomstick doesn’t work. I recommend spraying the rubber mount with WD or something similar to make moving it around a bit easier. Best results may take several attempts. Mine have been good for a while now.
