Can transmission temp be read from a gun?

Hey,

I really want to check my tranny fluid level. Would a temperature gun give a good reading? I was thinking of using the plastic pan as the target. I know I can use Forscan. Also, given I can get the coolant temp using engineering mode on the display, would the tranny be at the approx same temp as the coolant?

Compare your gun reading to the other two and see if it is close.

Temperature is a range from my understanding and that you just need to be over a certain temperature to check it.

No, us troglodytes wi XL and XLT have no way of getting the tranny temp.

My peasant spec 2024 has all the temps displayed in the Measurements screen of the instrument cluster display. Perhaps this didn't trickle down until 2024?

Totally different IPC and software on the 2024 trucks.
My Lariat display is nice, but they stepped it up for 2024.

Ok….. a scanner is going to be a MUCH better idea. The insulating properties of the polymer pan will affect the temp as measured from the outside of the pan.

It isn't OBDLink but looks very similar.

I don't have it because I can only stand an iPhone enough for work use. ?
