Well... On my recent road trip, the Ford maps came in VERY handy!

I was in Yellowstone... where there is very little Verizon coverage, and I forgot to download the Apple Maps for the area. I had my list of places to visit, but without the downloaded maps Apple Maps was worthless. Ford took me right where I needed to go. :)

Yes... I know that this will still work even if I don't pay... I just won't get real-time traffic, etc. But, I thought that it was rather ironic that right after I bash Ford maps.... I am forced to use them. (Or... heaven forbid... a PAPER MAP!)

Used my UNconnected built in nav to get to a restaurant today out of city. It didn't account for construction but directions otherwise perfect as usual.

Anyone know why I can't reactivate Navigation when activation is pending?

Are you sure you are willing to pay 120 bucks a year for this. I received my renewal of the expiring navigation and the cost was 120, plus of course applicable taxes. Not happening on my truck . Same thing with the BC renewal. Pretty soon FORD will be charging for remote starts, let’s see , how about 150 a year for this feature.

I use and prefer Android Auto for navigation. I can enter a location into my phone in the house and walk out to the truck, connect AA and call up the directions. Why pay for something free with AA?

You don't even have to do that. If you're logged into a chrome browser and visit maps.google.com and search for an address or business, when you get into the vehicle and maps loads, that address should be at the top of suggested if the phone uses the same google account.

I've found the suggested addresses to be startlingly appropriate for where I'm about to head including places I might visit once per month. Always keep an eye on it to see what's at the top of the list and you may find it to be a little uncomfortable in its predictions.

I'm an ancient old phart. I still use my perfectly good Garmin 660. It still updates the map at least twice a year. I will absolutely never pay $120 extra every so often in order to use Ford navigation.

That reminds me I do have a dedicated GPS if I really wanted to use it. Ford built in is good enough for me for most things. It just can't see traffic and construction. Given the fact that Google maps also is blind to any form of construction for the past year they are about equal if I were to use Android Auto.

When we are on the road. my wife will use her phone to check the roads ahead to determine whether to detour or not.

In 2022 they deleted the built in nav with the 3 year trial for any truck less than a 502a. This was a big feature for me and I just squeaked in with my 502a order. The regular nav got the 90 day trial.

Yeah 2023 may have gotten through the supply chain/chip issues of 2022. In fact the early builds with the connected built in that were lower than the 502a had that 3 year but they started "deleting" that about midway through.

Whether its worth it or not, depends on how you use the truck and if you already have a Garmin or not.

Daily driver with an infrequent road trip? Anything on the phone will do, just fine.

Towing across the country, to unfamiliar places? Good to have in your back pocket.

On our current, 4K+ mile trip, where cell signal is good, we're using RV Trip Wizard through the Android Auto apps section and much prefer it to anything else I've seen but cell service isn't always good.

In Northern Nevada, Ford's Nav impressed some locals on its ability and detail, of a bunch of Forest Service trails. 100s of miles, in the week we were there. Android wouldn't even load. but still insisted on trying.

Cell service was spotty in the Grand Tetons too. Android based products would drop out and leave you hanging. Used Ford Nav almost exclusively while there.

If I already had a Garmin? Probably wouldn't fool with it but so long as we are travelling, I'll keep up my subscription. (Edit) Not sure if they are bundled or not but I'll keep the built in Hot Spot too.

The only bright side to those deletes is you can add them back to the truck. Of course that costs more than the tiny credits they were giving on window sticker for deletes.

I just spoke to this department yesterday and it is $80 or 16,000 FordPass points to renew for 1 year. I will be renewing using FordPass points.
