Well, I settled on the tire for the 2024 KR Powerboost build. I have always done E load KO2s, but after reading a lot on this forum, I feared that electric mode would be a thing of the past and the PB would effectively be a cool in truck generator. So, I looked at tires that would reduce weight and still get me not only an aggressive look, but actually perform somewhat off road as I do own some property than requires some mild off roading (nothing too serious, but I wouldn't trust those worthless Pirellis to be capable.)
I settled on the Ridge Grappler. For years, Nitto offered the Ridge in SL on a 305/55/20 size. I am hesistant on that because, I would prefer at least a 34" diameter corner after leveling the truck. Also, at 305mm wide, I think the tire could likely use aftermarket wheels with a less positive offset than OEM. Since my KR has branded OEM wheels, I was wanting to stick with it. Thus, I was looking the Recon Grappler in a 275/65/20 SL. This has been reviewed a lot on this site, quite favorably. I was thinking these would likely be what I was going to get. Then I saw that Nitto had introduced the Ridge also in a 275/65/20 SL. I just had to try them out.
The tire itself is 51 lbs, which is on the heavy side for an SL, but the reason why is unlike most manufacturers of SL versions of AT tires, like Falken or Toyo, Nitto leaves the extreme sidebiters on the Ridges.
I will update this thread with discussion of performance, handling and ongoing fuel economy. They went on today, and I am quite pleased with the look:
Surprisingly flush fit. Not tucked in like the Pirellis even though the section width was the same:
As for the trip back home fuel economy:
I'll take it.
