CV Axle Leaking Dif Fluid…Again

Truck being towed to shop tomorrow. This will make a third attempt for repair of the same issue. I’m at a loss…thoughts from anyone?

that’s where it’s dripping but best I can tell it’s coming from CV connecting to DIF. Smells like gear oil to me??? What else could it be? It’s getting slung when driving.

I could be missing details looking at the pics on my phone but that looks too thin and light to be CV grease IMO and even so the boot would need to be split wide open or completely off the CV shaft to sling it while driving…..it’d be clumpy not drippy if you catch my drift

I’m investigating further now.

Truck had CV axle issues so when I seen the spot on drive I may have jumped to conclusion. From above I can’t see anything leaking. I sure appreciate your perspective.

If you put a white paper on the floor the color of the fluid will help narrow things down, looks almost like coolant or light engine oil (maybe power steering fluid) to me

My guess would be the axle seal again. That sucks.

Yep white paper towel can help identify type of fluid. Clean up the mess that you can reach. Then keep watch and follow back to source when you start seeing again.

I just jacked it up a bit and got under. Hard to do much in the dark. I’m now convinced it’s engine oil. Looks feels and smells exactly the same. Just finding it’s way to this area drivers side. There has been no drip since I noticed the driveway 5 hours ago which leads me to think it leaks when ICE is running. Truck has not been driven today. Looks like oil slung all the way back to exhaust. It’s sticky. I’ve had this issue maybe through two oil changes. Oil filter is dry.

Shouldn't be Pwr Steering fluid, since the F150's have electric pwr steering.

True, no p/s hoses or belt driven pump - but isn’t he rack still a pressurized system that can leak? Or are steer by wire systems totally void of hydraulic fluid?

Do they still have that tray thing under oil filter? I imagine dealers never clean the oil off that, but it would be low.

Could be leak at the turbos.

Keep us updated on whatever you/dealer find.

Pretty sure there is no power steering fluid. There's certainly no reservoir to check power steering fluid levels.
