Your truck is on Sync 20301 which is old software known to break the OTA process. I would try to get your dealer to get you out of it's current state as it is not easy to do even with the Mongoose and FDRS. Tell them your truck has never received an OTA update and it is still on the same software it was built with. They need to manually update your APIM using TSB 22-2404. Once they get your truck passed that, you can do the rest
Do you mind checking again, apparently the APIM has been replaced, so just want to make sure everything is provisioned correctly to receive OTAs now, and I am good to proceed with the Mongoose.

Much appreciated!

Oh yea! You're good to go! They got you on Sync 23159 which is the latest so far for your truck. They updated the IPMA and IPC, and several updates to APIM, GWN and TCU. As a matter of fact, you already got sent an OTA today. The OTA failed because you were sent software your truck already has. You now have full-screen carplay/android auto as well as a few other goodies you didn't have before. I don't think you need a Mongoose with all the work they did.

I took my truck in on 11/3 for them to look into my stop safely now issue (had the engine light and codes thrown) and after being hooked up all day, they said the APIM was bad and ordered another. When you are able, I would very much appreciate a look at what has been done so far. Luckily, there isn't an issue with driving it so I didn't leave it there.

They said some some of the modules were updated and some things couldn't be, but didn't get more specific. So far the new APIM has not come in and I've been curious what was actually done. I don't have any paperwork yet.

The only thing I can see is the sync version (23045, which has not changed). I'm still relatively new, but no clue how everyone knows all the other updates that have been applied to their trucks. Thanks!

I do see a few failed APIM attempts on 11/3 and FDRS generated a repair validation code which I believe is what needs to happen for them to be able to order you a new APIM under warranty. I would have tried a config/PMI procedure before giving up on programming it, but I digress. Other than that, they updated the GWM and nothing else. I don't know why the APIM would not take the update, but it didn't. The update would install, but it would then fail the validation process at the end of the procedure.

Thanks! That's quite a bit more info than I had from Ford. My build date is sometime in June '23, so maybe there isn't much to update. The fordpass app has no info within the update software section as nothing has ever updated, I'll just let things play out.

Thanks again,
Steve

Unfortunately, the communication between techs and service advisors is usually not very good. Most SA's either don't care about what happened with the vehicle; and even if they do care, they don't understand the lingo. Hell, sometimes even the techs themselves don't understand the lingo. If FDRS fails, it fails and the tech will move on to the next open work order he/she can get paid on. FDRS offers guided procedures that you follow with no room to go outside what the procedure you are running does; and understandably so. Techs are not software engineers, so Ford provides them an automated process to update modules (as does every other manufacturer) to minimize the chances that they will mess something up.

Nothing in queue for OTA and only an ACM update showing in FDRS. A reliable source in another forum said that 6.3.0 and 6.4.0 are both on hold at the moment. It would explain why nobody has reported getting 6.3.0 in a while.

Awesome, yeah just picked it up today and noticed the full screen CarPlay. So you think I no longer need the mongoose?

I don't think so, no. If you want one to future-proof yourself for future updates that get released, then go ahead. However, you they installed all relevant updates on your truck that is out now, so you would have little use for it at this time.

I can check FDRS for you later when I get home. Based on your Sync version and OTA history, you should have a good amount of updates pending.

Just like above, I can check FDRS for you later when I get to my laptop. Based on your OTA history, I would not give Ford $50 for an FDRS license right now. The updates you are missing are to prep the truck for future updates. I would wait until something more significant comes out before dusting off the Mongoose.
