'22 2.7 EB. Just hit 10k miles. Got my 5k change at the dealer. Would go back but they are 5 hours for an oil change, and run horribly.

Options:
1. Go to a local mechanic shop using whatever oil in synthetic blend or full syn 5w30(will it meet fords specs? idk)
2. Go to walmart and buy motorcraft syn blend 5w30 and order the oil filter in the manual. Pay oil change place to use my products. I don't care what the cost is, just don't want to put in off brand oil and filter if it actually makes a difference.

Thoughts?

Oil changes are as simple as it gets on the 14th gen!

My trucks a 5.0 but I feel quality oils translate across different powertrains. I’m currently running penszoil ultra platinum with a FOMOCO filter. Hopefully this can guide you!

You are going to get wildly different opinions on this topic.

If you aren't going to change it yourself, any oil change vendor should use oil that meets the spec. If you're changing every 5,000 regardless of % meter in the cluster, the vendor's oil should do just fine for that interval.

Outside of that scenario, you're going to get wildly varied opinions. You need to decide what's important to you. By the book or venturing into opinion of the forum territory.

My unsolicited 2 cents: keep the OCI at 5,000 or under. Use any oil that is synthetic blend or full synthetic that is weight range specified for your motor.

My attitude is that making sure you follow the manufacturer’s minimum oil change interval recommendation is far more important than whether you exceed their recommendation or what brand of oil you choose. Things like that may be modestly beneficial, but the most important thing is just making sure you’re changing the oil when it’s worn out.

When it comes to our road vehicles, I have our vehicles still under warranty changed by Ford, so I use whatever oil they use, and I follow the oil life monitor with one exception, if a warranty requires I exceed the manufacturer’s recommendation. My F-150 came with a no charge third party powertrain warranty from the dealer to 200k (on top of Ford’s warranty, of course—the dealer had gimmick for several years of giving 200k warranties), conditioned on changing the oil at 7.5k or when the oil life monitor says so, whichever is LESS. I know some folks get peace of mind from changing the oil more often, but having had my oil tested many times previously, I’m not concerned Ford is BSing their oil life monitor results, so I’m not going to waste time, money, and oil (a finite resource even most synthetic oils are originally made from) if I don’t have a good reason to do so. My 49 Ford doesn’t have an hour meter, so it gets an oil change around when it feels like time. It is the only vehicle I have a brand preference on, because Rotella T4 15-40 is widely favored in that community as a good match for those aging engines.

I believe it does make a difference. Ford's specs are a minimum that will get you to a trade-in. If you're in it for a longer haul then choose carefully. First, full synthetic only, Second look carefully at stability in high temps, particlarly of towing alot. I have great confidence in AmsOil. I've used Mobil One, but now consider it of lesser stability. Works in a pinch.

So long as it meets or exceeds Ford specs, no it doesn't matter. There are people out there that have put hundreds of thousands of miles on MC blend, while others would swear your motor will seize if you run anything but Mobil 1. PUP is the best God-like flavor to some, while others faithfully run SuperTech without issue.

The bottom line, keep intervals around 5k miles. Use whatever oil you want so long at it meets Ford spec and you'll be fine. Filters are dime a dozen. Anything above a baseline Fram, Carquest, STP, Microguard, etc., will be fine. Motorcraft filters are average at best based on filtration. I've put thousands of miles on Quaker State Full Synthetic and Champ XL filters without issue. Based on some opinions, my motors should've been boat anchors long ago, yet here they still run just fine. Change frequency is the most important factor.

Gathering from other posts above, and my own experience, regular changes with Ford spec oil and filters is basic and perfectly adequate to keep your engine running well for the long term. That being said, "extreme" use should dictate shorter oil change intervals.
Personally, I follow the Ford oil change interval suggestion in my Ecoboost Mustang and use full synthetic since it's modded. When I reach first suggested OCI in my 2023 2.7, I will go with full synthetic.
Opinions on this are like noses, everybody has one and they are all different.

Extra virgin olive oil with a coffee filter in a reused oem oil filter canister every 25,000 miles for me
Can you buy the Olive oil with the Garlic already infused, or do you do it yourself? Inquiring for a friend...

Care to elaborate on that? Can you provide a reference to the official statement from Ford about this?

He just means that if you trade often and don't keep your truck for high mileage/long term, Ford spec or cluster oil monitor will suffice for getting the motor too last until trade time. If you're in the other camp, being more proactive through measuring tools like used oil change analysis is a more accurate tool to help decide when and what oil to use for an oil change strategy.

I don't think he meant the oil change interval, whether you should do it based on the cluster oil monitor or other factors. From the rest of his message, I believe he was referring to the oil itself (as in "Ford's OEM oil is not good enough" [my interpretation, not his words] ):

I could be wrong of course, but this is how I read his message.

My last truck I had better tests from Blackstone switching to generic Walmart supertech than I had with years of testing with motorcraft. Your oil usage may vary. :)

I do believe full synthetic over a blend being the primary reason for better test results and lower wear metals.

I don't want to words in his mouth. He has lots of experience with used oil analysis and high mileage older vehicles.
