If you’re headed to the dealer anyway, you can try one more thing first. Delete all of the files on your USB drive and then delete all of the files in this directory: c:/ProgramData/Ford Motor Company/FDRS/fdrs/data/vehicle_software. Then give the PMI another try. It’s a long shot, but deleting all of the files in the software directory and letting FDRS download fresh files has worked for a couple of people who encountered USB_0 errors.
That also was a no go. Assuming I have a bad module. Very frustrating as I’ll have to make a trip to the dealership so they can diagnose then another so they can replace it.

That’s too bad. It was a long shot. If there is any solace in it, at least you can say you did everything you could before throwing in the towel. And you have. That’s not nothing. And I agree. It’s a bad module. It shouldn’t take the dealer too long to reach the same conclusion and get you a replacement.

Can anyone check and see if I have an APIM update before I spend the money for FDRS? I got one update right after I managed to update everything last year and then nothing again...and I really want full screen carplay.

Thanks!

Jesse, today I did most of my updates with the exception of 1. It’s the APIM update and keeps giving me an error code. Any idea what it could be. My VIN is 1FTFW1E57MFB32033. Thank you,
Steve.

There's one more thing to try. My MME was stuck saying it needed the GWM updated before it'd allow the new APIM to be updated. It was stuck saying the GWM was needed updated (but it was). I tried it, a week or so later I took it to the dealer for a separate issue and asked them to try and get it to fire off. It too errored out with them and then this fixed it..... could have been a one off, or already patched ...as quoted from another forum...

So my vehicle has shown a GWM update pending for 2 weeks now, dealer couldn't even get it to go -- as in it was showing as an update on their end too.

First thing I did which may or may not have had anything to do with the issue is run the process for installing a new GWM (USB required).
Again, this may not be needed -- I went through the install new GWM module, it read it, said turn off car install new module, clicked okay, it then created the files on the USB and I installed it as instructed. When it was done it was still showing a GWM update as all that was available. Tried the update despite reinstalling via USB and it failed again. Not being one to throw in the towel, I decided to play w/ FDRS

Hitting the envelope in the top right, it brings up an FDRS status box -- in the center of the popup is an option to delete the FDRS vehicle cache and reload it. It will then take you to the main 'enter vin' screen as if it's a new car, read it and proceeded. It pulled info on the vehicle, taking long than usual, and like magic, the GWM had vanished (which is why it wouldn't update, it WAS up to date).

Then an APIM update was showing, tried to run it, errors out after the typical process. Again not willing to give up, I then did the envelope / vehicle cache flush and viola, APIM update takes. What's interesting is that both mine and the dealers FDRS were both showing the same thing. It's as if the flush vehicle cache option clears something on FORDs side, and the local machine. As if the connection is vehicle > FDRS computer > FDRS active server > FDRS master server.

Just received new ABS and PCM updates on the powerboost. Not sure what they did but I applied them.

Jesse / somebody else, can I get another VIN check on available updates 1FTFW1E58MFC14482 ? I am on 21136 Revision 134. Back from a while ago:

I don't park where I have wifi signal (best I can do is 5G hotspot and I am limited to about 10Gb), I don't have the AT&T cellular and I can't hook up to a power source to update via Mongoose and laptop, truck cannot be activated in Fordpass since it says I haven't taken delivery.

I asked this earlier, but things on the forum change. Can I update via USB like I have update many of my other previous cars? My goal is the fullscreen Carplay and potentially any recommended updates.

I llost my securalert after soing a master reset. It has yet to return. My hope was the TCU update would correct it. It hasnt as of yet. So time will tell. Since speedracer had his return without an update that means I have another issue.

Ill wait a few days and see what happens
Jesse were you able to resolve the secure alert issue? If so what did you do? I'd like to get mine working again.

That was a scary one. The abs, pcm and BCM all have to approve the PATS key to start.

your issue was not your fault. Fdrs only showed the strategy file availableso when you did the update it didn’t install the ecu config and you had the mismatch and it bricked.

the result of a bricked abs is no start. Thankfully I was able to find the old file and load it and get him back to life. If not no one could have fixed it because the dealer would have had the same result.

glad you are all updated. Glad I was able to help!
Here's my new Ford PATS issue, everyone might have to add in their piece of knowledge:

- Engine won't start busted ABS module (cracked pcb board).
- New ABS module PHYSICLY installed.

OLD DAYS:
- FORSCAN - Load as-built data - Copy from old ABS module OR copy AS-BUILT data into ABS module.
- Initialize ABS module
- Bleed ABS unit and all 4 wheels.
- Fully functional ABS and vehicle.
- Sit back and enjoy a cold adult beverage.

NEW PATS system:
- Vehicle won't even start, ABS just physically replaced. Installed perfectly, no issues.
- FORSCAN - Save Factory data from ABS unit to laptop.
- FORSCAN - Load AS-Built data to ABS module. Forscan complains and error states upgrade ABS unit first.

MY PLAN (please step in and correct anything):
- Buy Mongoose adapter and rent FDRS license for 2 days.
- Upgrade ABS module using FDRS
- Load AS-Build data using FDRS
- Initialize ABS Module with FDRS. WAIT!!! Is this even possible without being a dealer! I searched for 2 days, ZERO locksmiths with FDRS in Colorado.
- PATS initialization?? See above. If so I will have to pay to a tow to nearest Ford dealer.
- Bleed ABS unit and all 4 wheels.
- Start vehicle and test drive.

Thoughts? If a tow to the dealer is part of a Ford 3rd party shop installation steps, this will suck for the future.

If you installed a new abs module you’ll need to mi it in fdrs. Do the calibration s of the sensors and then do a pat’s initialization

if you have fdrs MAYBE.. maybe I can remote in and log in and do the pats part for you.

That's very kind. I'll order in the Mongoose, and 2 day lic, and let you know.

This kind of sucks though, that the new PATS requires Ford dealers or tricked out locksmith that can't share codes (hard to make money with 1 locksmith tech).

FORD: For the record NO meth head was snatching half janggy ABS units!! It's all about the cats.

Long time no talk here but FINALLY got my APIM replaced after my initial dealership visit in May 2022 for the CSP in which dealer claimed everything was good to go but alas it was not.

Dealer installed new APIM on Weds, automatic update button is now able to be turned on at least but truck is on something old as far as sync goes. No updates yet, hooked to wifi every night locked in my garage. Getting real worried and just want my freaking truck up to date. Early build 2021 powerboost

VIN 1FTFW1EDXMFB13466

Can anyone tell me if there's anything pending, if they even did anything, and or what version I'm running? It would be so appreciated. Thanks guys.

Steve,

Here's the list of available software updates in FDRS:
Ford F-150 ECU module programming guide using FDRS 1FTFW1EDXMFB13466-5-Mar-23

You have no APIM update in the list. And @Jesse-Infotainment can weigh in here but I have never seen an APIM software revision of MU5T-14G676-FA before. That's a new one to me.
After the attempted updates on the 22nd they got a repair authorization to replace the APIM. They did a PMI (APIM) on the 1st along with some powertrain updates.

What Sync revision does it say you have on the screen (Sync About)?

Truck on Wi-Fi doesn't matter. Set updates to check daily at a time while you're driving (like going to work) in an area with good AT&T coverage (min three bars). All updates are coming through the truck's TCU, not Wi-Fi. Checking for updates when the truck is driving ensures the 12V battery is above 80% state of charge.

Ford F-150 ECU module programming guide using FDRS 1FTFW1E58MFC14482-5-Mar-23

Looks pretty familiar.

Your updates aren't gonna come over Wi-Fi. You've got a US spec truck in Germany with a TCU (telematics modem) that's been provisioned for US AT&T coverage...not Vodaphone in the EU. That's why you're not getting GWM/APIM updates.

I'm retired military myself with many years spent OCONUS and I know full well the challenges of trying to get OEM service and warranty support for a vehicle that is outside the warranty coverage area. Is there a Ford dealer that is willing to re-provision your TCU for the EU while you're stationed there?

Outside of that the best thing you can do is get a Mongoose, a powersupply and a two-day FDRS license and a very fast ("Extreme") USB 3.0 thumb drive and do the updates yourself. There must be other folks in your AO who also drive Fords...maybe you can get together on the purchase of the Mongoose and license?
