Here's my use case:
  1. Currently have stock 275/65/R18 Goodyear Wrangler Territory AT's on a 2021 Powerboost FX4 with 24,000 miles on them
  2. No plans to tow
  3. Live in Maryland and all that driving is pavement. So we are talking mostly wet environment driving.
  4. Travel to the west a couple times a year during mid Spring - late Summer and probably put about 600-800 miles of the 24,000 miles driving off-road that I would consider mild to slightly more than mild. Basically, what you typically see for forest roads in Colorado since that is where I would go to boondock and hike.
  5. I have gotten a flat tire once with these Goodyears Wrangler Territory AT's on an off-road trail, but I think I could have avoided it going a little slower. I actually used my spare tire to get me 1700 miles home. The blown tire was also repairable so that was a win.
I like the look of, quietness, and milage I'm getting with the Goodyear Wrangler Territory AT and it seems to be a good fit for my use case. I am concerned a little that I put a small pointy rock through the tread of the tire though, but 800 miles off-road before that happened was pretty impressive.

Are there any better SL rated AT tires for my use case?

Michelin LTX A/T 2 is a fine all terrain tire....if you can find them. It's a great looking tire, squared shouldered. More aggressive tread than a highway tire, but less than a K02. It is a light truck tire. I have a set of of 285/55R20.

Thanks. Michelin highway tires are my go to tires on my cars - I like them a lot. I like that Michelin has an AT tire, but I do not know if this Michelin offers any better protection than my Goodyear for tire punctures for off road though. If all SL rated tires are about equal for puncture protection I probably will put these Michelin tires near the top, if not the top of my list for my next tire purchase.

The Goodyear Wrangler AT with Kevlar also looks interesting to me so far, but I do not know what I give up compared to what I have now (e.g, mpg, quietness, handling), and how much better Kevlar in Goodyear's SL tire compares to a regular SL tire for puncture resistance.

The Falken Wildpeak AT3W's are the best AT tire that I have found.

I use the tire website of America's Tire Store and for the tire manufacturers like the one for Nitto tires. I can learn what a tire is best at and for me it is traction on wet pavement that I care the most about. Customer reviews for specific tires can provide very useful information.

Offroad the trick is to know how to avoid sidewall damage and to drive at the correct speed for the terrain. The higher the speed the greater the impact on tires, suspension, and passengers.

There is also a bit of false advertising with tires today. A tire will be "10-ply rated" but have only 6 plies and provides far less sidewall protection on rocky ground. I avoid these tires as they provide less durability.

Also the sidewall and tread profile makes a tire better for sand and snow if it is not a sharp corner but less good in mud. A more open tread flings out mud better but can also fling out gravel as well. There is something about the Michelin LT tires tread that makes them very good for picking up gravel and then tossing the small rocks up at the truck when you get onto pavement.

My current 275/65/18 Goodyear Wrangler Territory AT weight is 37 pounds.

Here are the SL tire weights of the ones I been looking at and suggested. I would like to stay with the toughest lightweight AT tire as possible because I still do care about gas mileage - driving across the USA a couple times a year to do a little bit of off-roading isn't cheap. Wet performance and stopping distance is important too because the mid-east coast is where I drive the most.

- Goodyear Wrangler AT with Kevlar is 43 pounds.
- The Michelin LTX AT2 is 40 pounds
- The Falcon Wildpeak AT3W is 47 pounds
- Continental TerrainContact AT is 40.1 pounds

I am sort of leaning towards the Goodyear Wrangler AT with Kevlar because it appears that it might be the toughest of the tires listed above for off-road with the exception of the Falcon Wildpeak, which seems like it may be closing in on E rated tire weight terriorty and toughness. I wonder if the lower weight of the Goodyear tire with Kevlar is just as tough as the heavier Falcon Wildpeak SL rated tire. My SWAG is that the Kevlar offsets some of the weight of needing to go with a heavier tire.

I appreciate all the feedback I have been getting. All these tires seem to have good reviews overall.

Toyo Open Country AT3 available in SL at your size. Nitro Recon Grapplers are available in SL at 295/65/18 if you are willing to step up to 34”s.

I'm guessing the additional sidewall protection on the AT3W's also contributes to their additional weight.

I had Nitto Grappler G2s on my 4Runner and they worked great. Still waiting on my first F-150 order so I have no reference to how they'd be on that truck but the traction was good and did a small hill start on glare ice with no issue and did some unintentional mudding once or twice. ?

On my wife's 4Runner I've had the Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws and they became extremely loud after some mileage. Ended up getting rid of them and putting on the Continental TerrainContacts. They've been fantastic and super quiet. They're just not very aggressive. I plan on replacing my stock Hankooks with the Cooper AT3 4S here soon. They've got good reviews everywhere.

I replaced my OEM Hankooks with Nitto Recon Grapplers in 275/65R20 116T SL load range and they have been great so far. They weigh about 47.5 pounds and are quiet on the highway.
