XL upgraded to Lariat side mirrors. How do you get puddle and turn signals to work?

Are you sure your truck has all the wiring for the mirrors to work?
Both sides of connectors on mirrors have same wires? Could easily be missing wires on the truck side and not notice when connecting.

Was informed those buttons are for spot lights only and turn signals should work. I'll take the mirrors off tomorrow and see what the wiring looks like. Thanks for the info!

Just an idea.
If the wiring is all in place at the mirrors on truck side then it could be missing from the harness after that.

Don't know what else it would be if you have the changes in Forscan then missing wiring makes sense to me as the next item to check.

OK. Removed driver side mirror. Here is what that looks like. What am I missing?

Count the number of wires in the truck/door harness and make sure it's the same as mirror.

If it is, next make sure the same places are populated in both connectors.

Most connectors have very small molded numbers on the backside to identify terminal locations. Draw a diagram of the first connector and number where there are wires. Then compare to the other connector and see if wires are in the same spot.

Tedious work but that is how you find out 100% if your truck is wired for higher trim mirrors.

OK. At first glance the door harness has 12 wires

The mirror has 5 pins

OK. After more interwebs searching I believe I figured out that I will require an additional harness to make these work. Seems easy enough.

These are the mirrors that are on my truck. Turn signals and puddle lights. As well as heated icon on mirror.

That looks like someone wired a led strip in the spotlamp. I dont think that is factory. I could be wrong in that the mirrors with puddle lamps and spotlamps require more pins than 5.

That is about adding running lights to mirrors with working turn signals.


You can get access to Ford wiring diagrams on Motorcraft website with a subscription. Might need that to identify the wires on connector and it will show you where that wiring harness goes so you can check the next in line and verify wires and pins are in place on each side.

My mirrors have a lot more pins than yours, 11 off them. Off an XLT on my XL now. But I have BLIS on my XL.

You can get a motorcraft account and get access to Ford wiring diagrams on the motorcraft website. It's much cheaper than FDRS. Plug in VIN number and poke around you can see how wiring is routed. Use a VIN off a Lariat you can see function of the pins. It is all logged in PTS everything you look at for your VIN but doubt anyone will ever care.

I still suspect that if you have everything correct in Forscan you are missing wires somewhere along the line. It is possible to add the missing wires to connectors if you have the tools and knowledge.
