The guy that everyone b*&%ches to at work...
Hence why I made sure to get the light coverage on the Ford ESP. Between the lights and the keys, it adds up fast.

Taillights for my STX are $150 , If you can afford a Platinum you can afford $5,000 repair here and there. That’s a well known risk when buying a luxury vehicle, need to pay to play. They make trucks for us cheapskates, that’s why I bought my STX.
Not sure your logic is sound. 2 tail lights would be $11,200. Assuming the fronts would be that, puts just lights at $22,400. Now, are you seriously telling me the rest of the truck would add up to less than $60K at these ridicules prices? I would also question your $150 lights.

You can buy one of those lights with the module for $500 on eBay. YouTubers making outrageous videos, imagine that!

Here are some random observations after reading through the entire thread..

- Most companies do competitive bench marking on everything.. Ever wondered how close the specs are on most things on these trucks among Ford, Ram and Chevy?
- Same thing in pricing.. They compare pricing and make sure they are all priced rather similarly for like parts.. So the similarly featured tail lights for a Ram and Ford would have pretty close prices
- I am surprised we are even talking about parts prices.. Over the decades, there have been stories about how expensive an automobile would be if it were assembled with parts you buy at a dealership
- Finally, even with these rather high prices for parts, the automobile companies are not exactly rolling in dough.. The higher margins on parts offset the lower margins on the original truck they sold for a reasonable overall profit margin for the company as a whole.

This is just the way the industry is set up..

I have a '21 Platinum Powerboost and I'm wondering what is in the taillights to make them so expensive. Can someone fill me in?

I'm glad I bought the light coverage when I bought my extended warranty.

10 years ago when I was looking at buying a new car the insurance rate I was quoted was more than double what I was then paying. The agent explained that this reflected the much higher payouts for repairs being made for these cars.

I see this with my 2022 F-150 with a special color coordinated bumper that has rear backup sensors and collision sensors and the special tailgate with the pull out steps and grab bar. Far more expensive to replace all of that stuff than with any other pickup I have owned in the past 55 years.

Dealer make the majority of their profits from service work and selling replacement parts. I like the more common trucks from Ford and others as there is a greater chance I can find third party suppliers and save money.
