Work Surface Usage

My 2022 F-150 didn't come with the work surface when I bought it used. I was hoping that when I found the perfect truck it would have this feature. Alas, no. So, before I spend the money to buy one on the used market, I just wanted to ask this - how many of you that have this option use it frequently? How many have it and NEVER use it? Thanks in advance for your responses.

I've used mine four times maybe in 2.5yrs. It was to eat Chipotle or other fast casual food on a road trip. Never used it around town with a laptop or anything.

in use mine a couple times a month to eat a meal or use my laptop. I would use it more if I could have it folded out while driving. All that said, if I didn’t have it and could find a good deal on a used console top I’d do the swap.

The majority of the times I've used it was to show people 'Hey, look what I can do!'. It was handy during a road trip for eating once though.

Would I miss it if I didn't have it? Probably not.

I'm sure for others, it's a welcome addition - I can see lots of real-world uses, for those who spend more time in the truck.

My 23 XLT 302a doesn't have the workspace top.. I want it, but I don't NEED it lol. I was looking around this past week and found a video of the swap and it's not a terrible swap to do. Seems like prices for those console tops was like $800.. I don't need one that bad. If I come across a good deal on one, I'd probably pick it up.

I bought my truck with the column shifter and work surface. I use it often. My wife uses it in conjunction with the trucks wifi to work while we're traveling to minimize vacation time usage. When she's not using it we put the dogs bed on it so she can be up front with us. Wouldn't have my truck any other way. IMO it's not worth it if you have a console shifter as it severely limits the time you can to actually use it.

Used a handful of times for work/tuning/eating; basically anything involving a computer or food while in the driver's seat. If your lifestyle includes much of that, it'd be worthwhile.

For less than $200 at time of ordering it was a no-brainer, but not sure I'd retrofit, with my use case, at the costs I've seen ($700+)

My Plat also did not come with one. I own an IT consulting firm and my laptop is with me 24/7. Ive shopped eBay and even pulled over many, many Platinum owners here in Eastern Wash\North Idaho and begged them to sell\swap for my normal console lid. I met one retired guy that didnt even know it was there and said, "Oh thats kinda neat", and then refused to swap\sell to me...

(Not to take away from OP, cuz I dont think he has a Platinum), but I have a perfect condition normal lid and am willing to trade mine, plus cash and do all the labor for the trade if anyone is interested....

I really like having the work space on my truck. It comes in handy when I need to stop, pull out the laptop to fix a customer issue. Also use it when doing FDRS updates, perfect location for the laptop.

Works well when eating on the road. I would order it again.

I do like it and probably use it once a week for my laptop or food. I could get by without it, but I would certainly miss not having it.

I use mine regularly for food than my laptop, however, if I’m out of the office with my laptop I use it for that, too. It really is a neat feature to have. I’ve also been known to use it to hold paperwork when closed so I don’t lose it.

I was tempted to order the 103A for the fog lights in my 2024 Regular Cab XL short bed but that package now includes the work surface (column shift) and ya DON'T get a padded lid/cover like on higher trims. My right elbow has gotta have a padded surface for comfort. In earlier years it would swivel towards the driver and be much more useful so if you look to swap one in consider trying that one. It's much more useful for the passenger if you have a column shift. When I have my leather interior done I might see if I can get a old style installed with a leather padded top

All the shifters fold down.
A pad over the console would achieve similar results. Been thinking about it, but never got around to trying it. Much like the above I would never really use it if I tried such a thing.
