Why would a dealer do this?

Had a dealer call me and say there is a known issue with my truck (21 2.7xlt) that they won't be issuing a recall for. He said that they are reaching out to their customers to get them in for the work before the 5yr/60k is up. Either this is a monumental improvement in customer service or there is some incentive for them to do this. What am I missing? Any thoughts?

Have you heard them? I had mine go bad on my 17. Haven’t heard much about them on newer trucks

I would say if you are not hearing them on a start up I wouldn’t worry about it. Mine on my 17 went bad at I think 60,000 miles

I would try a new thread asking if any one with your year truck has had that issue

Mine doesn't have any issues that I'm aware of. This was an out of the blue call from the service manager at the dealership that I have taken my truck to once, about 9 months ago to replace the gearshift.. He was too eager to get my truck in there if there was no incentive for him or the dealership. I don't want to imply that something nefarious is going on, but it seems out of the norm.

Very strange. My dealer would not fix it until they heard it, even tho I had it recorded. Took 4 visits before they heard it happen.

I also believed that the cam phaser issues were mostly behind the newest generation of trucks. I'm sure that they can still go bad, but it seems as if we are beyond the days of "they will all go bad, just a question of when".

That is to say, I agree that this seems suspicious.

If not a recall, ask them to email a copy of the TSB or other Ford-letterhead service advisory regarding the "issue".

If they aren't willing / say they can't do that ..... Run, Forrest, Run

I started a rental 2021 3.5L at Hertz 2 months ago that would so, so beg to differ. LOL. It was so loud for a few seconds I thought it was rod knock from inside of the truck.

Drove and performed fine though.

Or give them an insanely high sell price if this was an attempt to buy your truck.

In all seriousness, if this is a dealer you trust and have had success with, get back in contact and see what the skinny is.

I don't think cam phasers were ever an issue with the 2.7.
