I have a Powerboost and tried eco based on this thread for a few miles. It felt like I was driving my Prius again. Based on that, I am just going to leave it in normal mode for daily driving. I have been able to get close to the advertised MPG in normal depending on how I drive.

I have found Eco mode to be worthless. Not only does it make pedal response even more mushy, but I think it actually decreases MPG in city driving. Electric only mode seems to be harder for the truck to switch into...I get the feeling Eco mode is waiting for the battery charge to reach a higher % before activating, and the net result is that it rarely activates.
Also, I feel like Eco mode actually keeps the truck in 8th gear for longer at lower speeds. This is detrimental to MPG.
Normal mode to me feels good for city driving, and most driving. I go into Sports mode when I'm in a part of town where I need instant throttle response (such as a left turn in through traffic with no light), or if I'm feeling lucky about the police not being around.

What is gimmick about multiple onboard transmission strategies being made available to you at the touch of a button?

So you have never touched the old school "tow/haul" button that trucks have had for decades? It was basic, admittedly, but it definitely altered the shifting strategy. These new "modes" are just far more granular and sophisticated. They are altering multiple parameters in the pcm and tcm.

Normal around town, Sport when I get into the mountains. The more aggressive shifting let's me keep off the brakes a lot more than everyone else. Slippery on the ski mountains, only slid out once on a sheet of ice around a turn.

For creeping around town, ive found that eco is the way to go. transmission shifts smoothly for the most part and isnt as sensitive as normal mode. Throttle tip-in is a little too aggressive in normal mode coupled with the transmission shifting too firmly at low throttle, which makes for some awkward/clunky shifting. Normal mode should be somewhere in between the current normal mode and ECO imo. I was in a 10 speed silverado for a month before i bought my f150, and I feel like GM has a better handle on how to program the 10 speed.

I leave it in Normal, because the dumbfucks at Ford can't figure out how to design a user interface. I can see it resetting on restart with some of the more specialized settings but if you set it to Eco, it should stay there.

The screen asks if you want to stay in the last selected mode on restart but if you also released the electric parking brake, it times out 50% of the time, the other annoying thing is pressing the OK button once doesn't do anything, you need to press it twice. So you need, at least on my truck, to press OK four times. That's when it's acting as it's supposed to, since every few weeks the MyView keeps resetting and asking me to configure it.

I did notice the shifts more when I gave up spinning the mode selector to Eco every time I drove the truck, I thought it was because I was getting more used to the ten speed transmission. Maybe I should try again and see if it does indeed shift smoother in Eco.

I tried Sport a few times and it's pretty pointless in the city and I think it also boosts the fake engine sound which I can't stand. It reminds me of the sounds from the Pole-Position arcade game from the 80's.

I'm surprised so many folks consider "Sport" aggressive or too much of something.
Sure, that shifting strategy is less determined to save you fuel, but judged just on shifting alone, to me the transmission is both far more "normal", since it uses the 10-speed as a 10-speed, AND it's far LESS uncertain about what it intends to do.

My only complaint for so-called Sport Mode is Ford takes EV off the table. Completely unnecessary, in my opinion. If I could have that shifting strategy AND EV cruising available, I'd be in Sport mode most of the time.

ECO for the drive to work, getting about 20-22 MPG with a V8 (I don't speed, Adaptive on at 65 MPH), Sport when running errands around town (makes the tailpipe talk)

It’s not a set it & forget it? The default is “normal”? I have a 73 mile commute so I thought I left mine in Eco every time I drive. Guess I need to pay more attention to Drive Mode.

That's OK. You just verified my claim that the so called "Normal" mode is so close to ECO mode that the fuel economy is very similar.

But you will probably see my opinion draw some ire around here. Lol
This is my third Ecoboost. Longterm, ECO mode is not a happy mode for this engine. It's fine for cruising speeds, but I personally think it borders on lugging this motor. And I can tell the transmission strategy is barely able to manage the truck happy too.

Normal and tow haul for towing. Eco turns it into a slug and when you're in Sport mode you just cruise around town at 4,000rpm all day and if you so much as breathe on the gas pedal it will snap your neck. Not a fan
