What is this?? Spots on cab corners

I have heard that during rail transport, micro flex's of metal from the tracks will fly up and embed on the vehicles.

I saw that also. This is a 2021 and they’ve just appeared over the weekend, just seems super super strange!

feel like I’ve tried everything. clay bar, iron remover, nail polish remover, wd40, white vinegar. As mentioned, it almost seems to be below the surface. Just weird for it to randomly appear over the weekend. It would make more sense to me if it had always been there.

If you see more spots then it has to be shotgun fungus. Really not sure what else it would be. Takes a lot of aggressive scrubbing to get that stuff off siding and vehicle paint. I removed all my mulch when I found out the cause. My truck at time and 30 ft of front of house was covered in black spores.

I assume you've washed the area in dish soap before using the iron remover? If it's been waxed or ceramic over top of rail dust have to get the coating off first.

My preferred remover on exterior painted surfaces is SEM SOLVE. I used it when I worked at an upfitter. That is weird it just showed up in the last 36 hours.

Did you happen to have your truck in a shop recently where welding or torch cutting was occuring nearby? I had similar spots in the paint and glass after this happened to one of my previous vehicles.

Nope. I wish I had something obvious to point to. I washed it on Friday, used a tire shine I hadn’t used before, and everything looked fine. After driving round trip to Fort Worth Saturday, I had tire sling all over the truck. Wiped it down with a wet microfiber and discovered these spots were not going away on the passengers side rear cab corner. Then next morning they appeared on the drivers side cab corner as well. Surely the tire shine isn’t the culprit but it seems way too coincidental to not be a contributing factor. Maybe there’s something in it that didn’t agree with the plastic cab corners. Sold at OREILLY so not like it was some shady black market tire shine ha.

Try a 25/75 mix of bleach and water and lightly mist it on the area. If it's fungus, it will kill it. Bleach won't damage the paint unless you pour it on and don't rinse it off.

looks exactly like artillery or “shotgun” fungus to me too. I would try clay bar and bug/tar remover.

I’d try ScratchX, available at auto parts stores. It’s pretty mild and seems to get just about anything off of car paint.

Theres a product called Concrobium , for black mold. Availablwe at Depot and good paint supply houses. You can get it in a 10 dollar spray ottle. Should be OK for the paint and does a good job on a variety of issues.
