All data is skewed in one way or another. I work in biotech...it would shock you how data can be manipulated to get to your desired results

I had two Ram 1500s before this, a ‘21 hemi and ‘22 ecodiesel. I was excited to get a ‘26 1500 or hopefully an SRT 1500 (wishful thinking). When I saw a pic recently of an e-torque on the assembly line, it sealed the deal that I wouldn’t be purchasing from Stellantis anymore. I went out a couple days later and got a Tremor with the 5.0L

I drove home today in my 6-cylinder company Ford F-150 truck to my driveway where I popped the hood on my personal Ford F-150 truck just so I could look at that big beautiful 5.0-liter V8 engine. ?
The V6 is cool, but the V8 is better.

Bet it sounds great in that boat.

Crazy how big those are yet the output isn’t mind blowing. Seems like all these modern smaller motors are wound up so tight to make the high numbers.
8:1 compression on the marine big blocks, they are made to last and make their torque very lazily. Everything is cast iron, pretty resilient engines.

Even the current day Mercruiser version of this engine (8.2L now) is still 8.75:1 compression. You also lose much less power through a sterndrive or single speed transmission than through a cars slushbox transmission. Sterndrives are typically rated at the prop too, not the crank so it’s like wheel horsepower. 350 HP is truly 350 HP of force being applied to the water, no marketing trickery like with cars.

I mean, reliability is a pretty big deal.

Especially compared to their new engines.
Only eTorque, so there goes the reliability. Hemi tick with a side of a really bad hybrid system.

If by better you mean weaker and slower than yes.
Example of smaller weaker 3.7 V6.

I think if you are a V8 guy GM is going to be the up and comer for half tons starting next year. Hoping they hit this 6th gen out of the park with hybrid systems and no CD since their current system sucks. They are building the new engine right here in Buffalo and just endowed the plant with $1 Billion to build it. It launches for the 2027 Silverado.

Barra said a bit ago the new architecture V8 replacement for the 6.2L will target between 440-460 HP so a healthy gain over the current 420 HP. That is before any hybrid implementation options which are confirmed to be available. With new architecture we are likely looking at a 500+ HP electrified V8 powertrain.

My tongue in cheek comments kind of were based on this….nobody cares about the Hurricane I-6. It’s not cool or relevant when this stuff is coming down the pipe and it sounds like a weed whacker.

Good talking points @JExpedition07 . I would be wary of purchasing any new vehicle with new engine for the first two years and let the bugs get worked out first. The HEMI is a dinosaur so I will be surprised if RAM brings that back unchanged and I will be disappointed too if it truly is unchanged. Maybe they can expand on their e-torque system and make it more of a hybrid? I think the Ford 5.0 is by far the most advanced engine, and I think it will be easy for Ford to bump up the power on this engine without much trouble. They could make the NA version 5.2-liters because they already have it and even add a mild hybrid system to it like RAM has to keep it competitive.

I prefer engines that have no hybrid gobbledeegook on it. Hopefully GM will sort out the new V8 BEFORE putting any hybrid tech on it. Even still, I'm a Ford guy vs a "V8" guy, and even better if it's a Ford V8, lol. Ford is doing EXTENSIVE R&D on the Coyotes across various race series. It's a great engine, tbh.

For you PB guys, when comparing V6s to V8s and claiming trumps on 0-60 times over the Coyote trucks, that's apples to oranges. The real comparison is the normal Ecoboost fellas. Yours is not a straight comparison. Sorry. And that's the gist of this whole thread. The new Dodge turbo v6 is not desirable in the Ram vs the hemi.
