**Update**

Has anyone gone through the Ford Buyback program semi-recently? I’m currently going through the process right now and I feel like I’m getting hosed here. MSRP on my truck that I ordered in April was $71,600 but after X-plan, rebates and a PCO I got it knocked down to $63k. I had a trade in worth $42k so I only had to pay sales tax on the difference which was $21k. They won’t help me any on a replacement vehicles Sales Tax or even offer a voucher for a replacement similar vehicle and I pick up the difference. Which means I will have to pay an extra $2625 for the next vehicle because that $42k trade value isn’t there. They also dinged me for $0.53 per mile I drove the vehicle for “usage” which 1/3 of that was to the dealership twice and their test drives. So they are factoring that much in depreciation per mile seems high. Also my truck only has 641 miles on it and it has been stranded at the dealership for 50 + days now with no eta on parts still. All this paired with not being able to use X-plan on a vehicle off a lot and pricing up going up this is shaping up to cost me a fair amount to replace the vehicle. Voiced all my concerns is my RAV agent calmly (really did) and she said this is the offer. I asked there has to be someone else I can speak with and she said “ Would you like me to escalate this”? I replied with please and she said ok and hung up; must have been a rough day because her tone from the beginning was rough to start. This whole process is just draining now at this point. Was trying to avoid outside representation and it looks like I might have to go that route.

TIA

Welp, I picked up my 22' King Ranch PB on 10/8 that I ordered back in April, and it's been down at the dealership for the past 7 weeks straight now. Water came through the windshield and soaked my BCM and main wiring harness on the passenger side A-pillar. Tons of back-and-forth calls and emails with Ford corporate over the past 7 weeks trying to get parts and there is no ETA on availability still. We finally agreed that's it best if we move forward with a Buyback and just move on. So, I'm currently early on in that process, but while this is going on I'm looking for a replacement idea. I'm seeing 23 models hitting dealers now and I'm considering going to up a Platinum vs King Ranch due to the pricing being very similar. 22's are starting to get harder to find and I'd be open to one provided there are some incentives. Anyone go from a KR to Platinum and have regrets or vice versa? Also, my KR had a sunroof which I really enjoyed the limited amount of time I had it, but I know there's been a bunch of threads started with complaints of leaks or malfunction. Are those still as problematic as they use to be or have there been corrections made in the past few years? TIA

Moonroof is meant to leak into channels that do plug. I’ve had leaks before and got lucky nothing got damages. They were pretty bad leaks too. I would never option a moonroof if choice was provided.

If I was ordering, the moonroof would not be included. I still have my 2014 Limited that you could not get without it and I have opened it maybe two times. Once when I bought the truck and once at the request of my wife. All future requests denied. lol. She said " why even have it then" , I said "exactly".

In case anyone is curious:
2014 F150 Limited 3.5 Ecoboost base price 54120
Options:
White platinum metallic paint 595
Tailgate step 375
Sub total 55090
Delivery 1195
Total 56285

Will be ordering a '23 in the near future without a sunroof.

I opted to net get a moonroof/sunroof on mine. Had them in the past and never used them, I’d actually close the shade because I don’t like sun coming in from above when driving. I don’t miss having it one bit!

I have had sunroof/moonroofs in various cars both domestic and foreign and never had any problems. Having said that, I did not order one in my 2021 platinum due to what I had read and heard about problems with Ford's roof.

Sorry to hear about the problems you had with the KR, but glad you are getting a resolution that works for you.

The utility of a moonroof does come down to how much you'd use it. I have one in mine and I do use it, and for me its been trouble free for the 6 months I've had it. The aspect I like, that obviously does not suit others is that you can open the shade to get light in. The drain cleanout is described in another thread, its a relatively straight forward bit of maintenance. Its no different than any other piece on the truck, it can have problems if you are unfortunate, but that doesn't mean all do.

If it were me, I would look at why you want a Platinum and factor what may not be available or are now mandatory deletes. Yours was late enough you probably dont have the MCS seats so maybe not factor, but if that's not the case it could be a negative. I do love that the KR is the only one that as soon as you open the door you think...oh yeah, its real leather not the version called leather in the other trucks.

Good luck with your next one if you opt to go that way.

I had a KR on order and ended up grabbing a Platinum off a lot when it came available. I still love the KR look, but truth is if you build them out exactly the same, the Platnium ends up being cheaper because the Platinum high (701a) build has more included in the trim package that are optional in the KR high (601a). For instance, you get BlueCruise on a 701a and you still have to add that on a 601a.

vs. The 601a with BC added as an option (forces trailer tow to get 360 camera - comes with Plat)

While the base KR is cheaper, optioned out the way most folks do it, the Platinum is usually the better buy - sometimes as good as a Lariat. I do prefer the look of the KR seats, but I think that the Platinum ones are more comfortable.

This is what I was noticing as well. All the KR's around here are priced right at or above the Platinum's for the same features minus Bluecruise like you mentioned. Mine was a 600a so I was missing most of those deletes anyway and I don't like the KR chrome package that's installed on everything down here as well. Not sure I have the patience to wait another 6 months to place an order like I did recently. I'm really digging the 2 tone Black and Carmel interior on the Platty's too.

I did the reverse.
Impulse purchased a 2021 Platinum Powerboost , trading in my 2018 KingRanch.
About 6 months in I was convinced that I loved the Powerboost but would have configured it differently if I ordered it. So I ordered it in KingRanch and 6.5 bed with CCD and Scales.

Took 6 months to arrive.

I have nothing negative to say about the 1 year with the Platinum trim. But my personal preference is Brown boots and hat daily, if you know what I mean.
The Platinum would be more of a suit. :)

Plus you will be charged for the usage that you were able to squeeze out of it already.

My policy on a moonroof is simple. If it’s a vehicle I’ll always park indoors, fine. If it will primarily park outdoors, never. I’ve had too many issues with leaks over the years to risk it. Accordingly, I’d order the replacement sans moonroof.

Yeah I'm not excited about this progress I just want to move forward and get past it. Been driving a base model Ram with the 3.6 for a month now and I'll practically do anything to get out of this thing. My truck only had 640 miles on it so they shouldn't hit me too bad with usage.

I can't think of a feature of top my head I'd miss by going with one or the other - IMO, Platinum vs KR is all aesthetics. To me, its what color inside and outside are you willing to pay/wait for.

I think the two-tone paint looks great on Gen14 KR, but I've never cared for the newer interiors. Its a tremendous amount of money. Waiting, searching, tracking down..it was Carmello interior or nothing. Power running boards we're also a priority (which ended up being a complete flop - these things are shit...)

I had roof leaks on my 2013, said I wouldn't get another sunroof. Well, the new used tuck has an even bigger one...if it makes you happy, get it. Fix it when if becomes an issue. Figure out your priorities and your absolutes. $3-4k either way, are you going to regret not getting ____.

It sucks but it’s still better than owning a virtually flood damaged vehicle long term.

Hopefully the dealership is nice enough to soften the blow and short term a newer calendar year vehicle is better (even though everyone in the know will say that 2021 is the best year for the gen14 trucks :p ) resale wise.

Another option for OP is to go down to Lariat for 2023 and then if supply chain issues are resolved for the 2024 refresh, put the money saved toward a real Platinum vs. the ‘22-‘23 Platinum Lite with its long list of deleted features.
