Well, this is a new one to me and had me feeling like an idiot for a good 45 seconds or so. Apparently, if the driver door isn't fully latched, the truck won't move while in reverse. :D

I had to move my truck for the lawn guy and had the door slightly open while trying to back up. Nope... There was a warning about reverse brake assist not working, but the truck wouldn't move at all. Followed by a few seconds of 'wtf' until I fully closed/latched the door and it magically moved.

Yay!

i have done that many times
not put it in park and open the door with trailer hooked up, or near hooking up
it shifts to park and brake sets as it chimes HEY DUMMY the door is open.
not sure if there is a way to stop it,

It’s safety and no way you’ll defeat it. I think I read somewhere that a woman was killed when she hopped out without realizing her car (Explorer I think) was still in drive. When she realized it, it was too late and the car ran her over.
If you’re in drive, unplug your seatbelt, and open your door, it’ll go into park. I don’t see why being in reverse would be different.

You are correct, I believe they implemented this somewhere around 2018.

If my step-daughter's car had this feature, her drivers' door wouldn't have taken the mirror off my truck when she jumped out with the car still in reverse... (I really wanted tow mirrors anyway, so not a total loss...).

24 f150… ordered Feb
That’s great until the door is closed and the computer thinks it’s open… that will be me on vacation getting gas at 2am.
Hope there an override… will have to do some research.
