Tacoma to F150

I went from a ‘17 Tacoma to a F150 a few years back. It took a while to get used to the size but pretty much everything else was better. Speed, acceleration, braking, luxury…. My Tacoma was one of my favorite vehicles though and it felt more unique but I’m now on my 2nd f150. I’m in central Texas so there’s no place to off road and that’s what I used the Tacoma for.

I too had a 21 Taco (Army Green) and can't really say anything wrong with it other than the obvious size difference. I had had Tundra's for 10 years prior, and Toyota makes a good truck. I never had an issue with any of them, other than 5.7 fuel mileage. The 4.6 was ok, but sucked at towing because it was a no frills truck.

My main reasons for switching out of the Taco was size. I'm 5'11", and it felt cramped, even with the sunroof. I had to curl up to get in an out of the truck. It could tow, but it wasn't enjoyable. I sat in a new 24 Taco, and they have their game on. Its comfy and a nice improvement. But, also never buy a first or second year in my mind. The new Tundra's motor and the new Tacoma tranny show why.

When I discovered I could could get the same fuel mileage in an F150 as I could in my Taco, I was sold. I did a lot of research into the 2.7 and the 3.5, and Ford seems to have an overasll rock solid motor from 2016 onwards. I would get roughly 9.5l/100km; 24.5mpg with the Taco over the 2 years. A tank full would get me 675km/420miles on the highway with gas to spare. My F150 is getting 9.9l/100km; 23.7mpg on the highway currently with the 3.5 and is so much more comfortable. Oil changes are way cheaper too.

The F150 is more quirky though I find, with little issues. The mobile connection is hit or miss for remote starts since I work in an office and its nice getting into a pre warmed truck after night shift. Never had an issue with my Taco.

It was hard to give up the Tacoma, but this thing is just beautiful. I wanted an F150 for years, this is one of the most beautiful ones I've seen. That rumble is something else.

But both that issue, as well as the frequency of failed axle bolts, seems to have become but a trickle.

Had to stop and look, to see if the trailer was still there towed the trailer, no problem in hills of PA.

Years ago, having received the family tent trailer from my parents, I went on a group camping trip.

My father had probably towed it for 50,000 miles, with another 500 to get it to me.

Less than 50 miles out, during a routine mirror check, I noted that the road was clear behind me.

It took a couple of seconds to register that "I'm not supposed to be able to see out the rear view mirror!"

I looked back, and the top had risen up several feet on its shafts!

I gently slowed down, and we ended up buying cord at the reservation store to tie it down: the final clasp failed while I was towing it.

It was hard to give up the Tacoma, but this thing is just beautiful. I wanted an F150 for years, this is one of the most beautiful ones I've seen. That rumble is something else.

The sweet spot for the 5.0 sound is load her up to about 4,000 rpm let her shift around there. Deep roar at that rpm if in 2nd and 3rd.
