2021 F-150 Platinum Sync system that won’t update and now appears to have cellular issues. In the about screen I have 22087_product version 415, the FordPass help line said she sees 4.0.21233, I’m not sure what those mean but maybe someone does. Took it to the dealer and they have had it for a week two separate times but can’t get it to update any modules, they said it starts then fails a few minutes in. It’s a dealer I used to work at and a good friend of mine is the tech so I know they are trying and not just pushing it to the side. After I sent the truck up there I had an issue with FordPass not wanting to connect, after a few hours it finally activated did but the features never actually worked. I tried to remove it and reconnect it and I kept getting a message saying my authorization rights could not be changed but now when I try to activate I am getting an error immediately after clicking activate saying my vehicle connected features are not turned on which they in fact are. I later learned that I could get into the sync engineering menu and learned that cellular is not connected so I’m leaning towards a TCU from the research I have done but just wanted input from you all. I have included photos of connectivity menu in engineering mode and the FordPass app. This is my first ever forum post so sorry if its in the wrong place or seems all jumbled together

EDIT: I did try to unplug the TCU overnight for a reset by to no avail. I want to get a mongoose cable and try myself but don’t want to spend the money if it’s not going to work.

Post in this thread and maybe a photo of your about sync screen too.

https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/threads/request-vin-lookup-thread.13393/

That number you posted means nothing the 5 digit version number gives you ballpark idea on age. My truck had 22177 in update limbo when I bought it. That is 177th day of 2022 software version.

TCU you can check and see if it is plugged in.

I updated the original post with the 5 digit number on the screen and with a number that was given to me by the FordPass customer service rep. The TCU is plugged in as I unplugged it overnight and made sure everything was connected properly once I hooked it back up. I am wanting to pull the trigger on a new TCU as they are fairly inexpensive but I am unsure if extensive programming will be needed once replaced.

@rugedraw knows more about these things but I believe that is the version you need to get dealer to perform TSB to fix it.

I would been the VIN to poke my head in and take a look, but this sounds like it goes beyond my scope of knowledge.

That engineering mode definitely implies you are not making LTE cellular connection. Not a good thing, but certainly explains FordPass and OTA issues.

COuple of issues.

You have the version 22087 in the truck the truck is reporting 21233 as the FOrd pass member said. This is due to the APIM being replaced and NOt PMI. You need to get this corrected aspa because IF the APIM current version links on FOrds side youll be screwed. It will pull any software as its wrong for the truck

Second teh TCU is not connecting due to the verison it is at. It is not supported anymore and cant be activated until it is updated.

I can Send you a APIM update to attempt to install BUT it most likely will error out due to going backwards.

Your best options are to one swap apims out with one at the correct version. Or we bypass the version and go straight to a newer version and that is possible but requires me to be involved.

Either way te connectivity is due to old TCU firmware.

EDIT- While in FM hold the Seek forward on the steering wheel and the seek forward at the radio controls down at the same time until you go into a test screen. Go into APIM diag and part numbers.

I need to know if you have a KG or KF apim. Most likely you have a KG now which introduces more issue.

Ok. we can update it.

Ill send you the update. I just saw this.
Jesse -

I am having the same symptoms as described above.
TCU is not showing errors that i can see; no cellular or WIFI is connecting to the truck.
It does show I have LTE signal and shows WIFI connected, but no actual internet connection.
Everything was fine then one day about a year ago (I assume after an OTA update) i lost connectivity services connection and ford pass and blue cruise hasn't worked since.
Dealership gave me the run around a few weeks back, so I purchased a mongoose cable and updated all modules. The only module I cant update is the GWM though usb. Sync reads it but nothing ever has popped up on the sync screen after initializing. I tried updating it through CAN and received an error and truck started going weird things so i canceled it.
To my understanding the GWM is stuck in an OTA update loop and I'm at a loss how to proceed from here. Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated!
See attached and let me know if you need any other info.

@ckring Cody, I can't help with anything apart from possibly the DTCs. Did you modify the suspension or anything to do with parking sensors? Did you change from stock tyres to a larger size and tried to put that new size in FORScan to adjust the speedo? If yes to any of this, that can explain those DTCs. They should not affect anything to do with the problems you're describing, I believe.

You can run the IPMA calibration for cameras and parking sensors which should get rid of that DTC. You can try to bring the tyre circumference back down in FORScan; 2,678mm is the maximum I've been able to use. If your number is higher than that, try 2,678. When trying tyre circumference in FORScan, you should always 1: modify value, 2: perform PCM reset all adaptations in service procedures, 3: clear and retest DTCs.

Thanks for that information! Yes, I do have a leveling kit and larger tires and those DTCs have been on there for as long as I can remember. I will make those adjustments you recommended.
My main problem is however the inability to connect the truck to the cellular towers so I can utilize bluecruise again.

Well, I would have suggested a PMI on the GWM, but I'd wait until more experienced people like Jesse reply.
